Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 23-12-2025 — Festivus for the Rest of Us.

23rd December, 2025: Festivus.

You know … there’s an old Catalan tradition …

This time of year, the inevitable Nativity scenes go up: and, in Catalonia?

There’s usually a Caganer: a ‘shitter’, in other words.

I have to confess, I don’t usually do Christmas decor … but having one in the window would certainly surprise people!

In all honesty, though?

I’m not too worried.

The only disappointment is the fact my Mac doesn’t have a Caganer emoji.

Heigh ho … !

~≈🎅🏻≈~

I think I need a haircut … !

No, there’s no ‘think’ about it: I need a haircut.

I just don’t know where’s going to be open in the run up to Christmas: and I’d hate to have to leave it … !

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        23rd December is Festivus.   It was popularised in an episode of what show: Cheers, Seinfeld or The Garry Shandling Show?

Q2)        The writer of the episode revealed the tradition was based on the dinner his family used to have on the 23rd December.   A dinner that featured ham, or what: chicken, turkey or goose?

Q3)        After Festivus Dinner, you’re supposed to air your whats: underpants, grievances or bedding?

Q4)        You’re supposed to display a Festivus what: tree, pole or boot?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Festivus is usually described as a what holiday: a secular one, a spiritual one or a religious one?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        22nd December is the feast day of Saint Hunger: a one-time bishop of Utrecht.   Modern Utrecht is in which country: Switzerland, the Netherlands or Belgium?
A1)        The Netherlands.

Q2)        The Lincoln Tunnel opened on 22nd December, 1937.   It goes under which American river: the Mississippi, the Hudson or the Rio Grande?
A2)        The Hudson.

Q3)        22nd December, 1964, saw the first flight of the experimental SR-71 plane.   The plane was nicknamed the what: Crow, Raven or Black Bird?
A3)        The Black Bird.

Q4)        22nd December saw the start of what was the longest US government shut-down on record.   22nd December of which year: 2018, 2019 or 2020?
A4)        2018.   (The one that was happening at time of writing, the one that started on 1st October, 2025, went on for longer.)

Q5)        Finally … ?   The home of former Prime Minister, Edward Heath, was attacked on 22nd December: an attack blamed on the IRA.   The attack took place in which year of the 1970s?
A5)        1974.
Here’s a thought …
“In its purest form, Festivus is truly the people’s holiday, one that they own, unfettered by rules, leaders, miles of wrapping paper, bubble lights and — most of all — the dreaded tinsel.”
Jan Uebelherr.
And a clip …

There’s a twelve question set is on 31st December, 2025: it’s the review of 2025.

The next ten question set is on 1st January, 2026: it’s about The Archers.

Your comments, and today’s answers, will be published in tomorrow’s Teaser.

AI is avoided when writing these questions.

Answers are as accurate as possible: at the time of writing.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!

Consistency, Debbi!   If you want consistency, we’ll have to sit you down with … um … something consistent … !
(Did I mention Atlantis?   Doctor Who has destroyed Atlantis, twice … )

Thanks for mentioning the Caganer, Paul. I saw some as tops of pens and pencils this year, and the ones of famous people have also become popular in the last few years.
Sorry I haven't managed to come by much. We had a problem on Sunday, when the blinds we have (they are installed on the wall and make the rooms that face outside completely dark) suffered a malfunction. Well, the cord that opens them broke and the technician came yesterday to repair them. Of course, that was yesterday morning, as I was on my way back from Jordi's class, so all got suitably delayed. And then, in the afternoon, Oleguer, the radio station director, called me to tell me that they had phoned them from TV3 the Catalan TV, because they wanted to do a feature about the radio station, because it's the only radio station in Catalonia in a bell tower, and he asked me if I'd go this morning, so they could film a "programme" (it was a pretend one, because normally we do the recording in the afternoons, but that was the only time they could fit us in), so I've been there this morning. We don't know when it will go live, but it will be sometime during the holiday season, that here lasts until the 6th of January. I am not sure if it will be possible to see it there, but if I can share something, I will.
Oh, and here is the link about last Friday's dinner...
