Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 18-1-2026 — DeSalvo

18th January, 2026: DeSalvo.

I think I’m on safe territory, here.

In saying that the 47th President of the United States of America is a screaming twat.

If you’ll pardon my language!

I’ll also say that the UK’s Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, may not be helping.

The President’s demands — that the US take over Greenland — are still on-going: with the US, under the President’s orders, due to impose tariffs from February.

Something affected countries have criticised as unacceptable.

Understandably.

Additionally?

The Prime Minister tells us the allies will be “pursuing this directly, with the administration”.

Which is possibly where things fall apart.

I believe whatever Britain’s representatives say to the current US administration is going to get ignored …

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        Albert DeSalvo was sentenced to life imprisonment on 18th January.   Of which year of the 1960s?

Q2)        DeSalvo was accursed, but never convicted, of being the Boston … whom?

Q3)        In a 1968 film of the same name, DeSalvo was played by whom: Kirk Douglas, Tony Curtis or George Sanders?

Q4)        February of that year saw DeSalvo escape from a what: high security hospital, high security prison or Guantanamo Bay?

Q5)        Finally … ?   He was eventually imprisoned, where: MCI - Cedar Junction, MCI - Concord or MCI - Lancaster?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        Nyingchi was hit by an avalanche on 17th January, 2023.   City — and avalanche — were where: Mongolia, Japan or Tibet?
A1)        Tibet.

Q2)        Which US city was hit by an earthquake on 17th January, 1994: New York, Chicago or Los Angeles?
A2)        Los Angeles.

Q3)        17th January is the National day of Menorca.   It’s an island that’s part of which European nation … ?
A3)        Spain.

Q4)        17th January is the feast day of Saint Sulpicius the what: Pious, Po-faced or Plentiful?
A4)        Sulpicius the Pious.   (Apparently, he’s a patron saint to people with skin conditions.   I don’t know if he can do anything about dermatitis … )

Q5)        Finally … ?   The Cherry Orchard debuted on 17th January, 1904.   Who wrote The Cherry Orchard: Aleksei Arbuzov, Isaac Babel or Anton Chekov?
A5)        Anton Chekov.   (Remember the name: it might be handy at the end of the month …)
Here’s a thought …
“DeSalvo’s claims to have murdered multiple women were disputed, and debates continued regarding which crimes he truly had committed.”
From the Wikipedia entry on DeSalvo.
A Rolling Stones song …

And an appropriate earworm§ …

The next ten question set is on 4th February: it’s about the Aldous Huxley novel, Brave New World.

Your comments, and today’s answers, will be published in tomorrow’s Teaser.

AI is avoided when writing these questions.

Answers are as accurate as possible: at the time of writing.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!

Apparently, Olga, X has temporarily restricted me: as I’m posting spam.   This … ?   Is only the second time in some sixteen or so years.   I’m not pleased: as you can imagine.
        Birds instead of scaffolding … ?   Nice … !

‡        I’m not surprised, Debbi: New York has a very cosmopolitan reputation!   As I recall, they — they have turned up, again! — used to say New York had a bigger Jewish population than Israel.   That’s rather mind-boggling!
That said?   The only kosher branch of McDonalds outside Israel in in a shopping mall in Buenos Aires.

§        The song, Gay Bar, includes the line, “Let’s start a war!”   The two official versions of the video that I found on Youtube?   Include the band’s lead singer, dressed up as President Lincoln, singing the line: but beep out the word ‘war’.   Why YouTube would censor a clip of a US president encouraging a war, I don’t know …

Q1) 1967

Q2) Strangler

Q3) Tony Curtis

Q4) high security hospital (I have visited and even worked in one of them in England, in Rampton, and they are pretty secure, but I have no idea what the Americans might have been like at the time).

Q5) MCI - Cedar Junction
Sorry about that, Paul. X are a law onto themselves. I remember having had problems with the previous Twitter, when I shared a lot of posts about books, but I don't really do much posting on Twitter these days, apart from the odd retweet... I hope they change their mind soon.
