5th January, 2026: Twelfth Night.
Right then …
It’s officially cold!
Again!
Trust me, my toes — despite being encased in both socks and slippers? — are telling me they’re ice cubes!
The sooner I can afford really thick bed socks?
The better!

I’ve got the radio on.
So I’m very aware that the Today programme has announced the Chinese Government has demanded the release of Venezuelan President, Nicholas Maduro.
I’m …
OK, I’m not worried.
I’m really not worried: not one bit.
But … ?
I’m deeply concerned.
I can remember reading about World War Two: and how Hitler’s Nazi regime used the smallest excuse to invade Poland, and how things escalated from there.
I’m very aware that the Cuban Missile Crisis could have led to World War Three.
Very aware of how — much like today’s Venezuelan Situation — the US led Gulf War was motivated by claims the US was after Iraqi oil.
I’m aware of all this … and thinking one thing.
I’m worried the US president’s actions will start World War Three.
I hope not.

And finally … ?
It’s the first Monday of the new year: so I’m up early, as my weight management group re-starts, today.
Hopefully?
I won’t have point on much weight.
Hopefully? Shivering in the cold weather may have burnt off a few calories!
Let’s move on.
Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Debbi† and Irene‡ putting in their answers: with Debbi and Irene scoring five out of five, and Mum on four.
Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?
Q1) 5th January is the 12th Day of Christmas. What — according to the old song — did my true love send to me?Q2) It’s unlucky to leave what up, after Twelfth Night: Christmas decorations, Halloween decorations or Passover decorations?Q3) True or false: Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night was first performed on Twelfth Night?Q4) Orchard Wassailing is supposed to take place on Twelfth Night. In orchards that grow what: apples, oranges or pears?Q5) Finally … ? The Twelve Days of Christmas are also known as what: Christmastide, Christmas-ebb or Christmas-flow?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) The Burj Khalifa opened on 4th January. Of which year: 2008, 2010 or 2012?A1) 2010.Q2) The tower’s in which country: Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates or Yemen?A2) United Arab Emirates.Q3) More to the point, it’s in which city?A3) Dubai.Q4) The tower’s named after a whom: an Emir, Sheik or Caliph?Q5) Finally … ? The tower has some twenty-one miles — miles! — of pipes. Pipes that specifically supply water to what: the air conditioning, the drinking fountains or the toilets?
Here’s a thought …
“For Christian denominations such as the Anglican Communion or the Lutheran Church, the Twelve Days are identical to Christmastide (December 25 through January 5).”From the relevant Wikipedia entry.
And a song …
The next ten question set is on 10th January: it’s about TinTin.
Your comments, and today’s answers, will be published in tomorrow’s Teaser.
AI is avoided when writing these questions.
Answers are as accurate as possible: at the time of writing.
Decisions about scores are final.
Thank you for coming: have a good day.
* Hello, Mum! (The tower opened in 2010, Mum, rather than 2008.)
† I’ll be honest, Debbi: I’ve not felt this angry about a US president’s actions, since the Gulf War. And, even then, President Bush could use the invasion of Kuwait as an excuse!
The fact China’s getting involved is worrying …
‡ Morning, Irene! Oh, I’ve a Kate Bush song on, at the moment …

Good luck with the weight management session today, Paul. Yesterday we had a crazy-busy day, with a never ending tide of children and parents visiting the Royal Encampment, and this afternoon we are taking part in the annual Three Kings Parade, handing out sweets and cardboard crowns to the children, so busy again. And very cold for here. Possible rain as well.
I'll share the articles when they become available. Take care.
