Again, Once More!

A quiet one, tonight, but it’s one that’s starting to look hopeful, at least.   I’ve finally managed to persuade Sue that a bonus question is going to be extremely helpful to the cause, although it’s not going to be in it’s original form.   More on that, a little later, though.

What has managed to improve my morale has been the assorted collection of teams in, tonight.   At the top are the Winos + One, the plus one in this case being Lee, who’s a long term regular, and occasional Old Peculiar; – they bagged the Tee-shirt, I should add.   The next photo is of the by now notorious AKA 47’s –Dave, Steve, and Neil, going from Left to Right.   Under the Winos is Martin who joined Sonia for the quiz.   Next, and looking mildly menacing, is Matt, who’s an old friend and fairly knowledgeable about popular Hollywood movies, and on the bottom are Adrian and Margaret, two fifths of the current line-up of the No Ideas.   And, as I’d pretty much expected, the AKA’s romped into first with 57 points, the No Ideas came in second, with 53.   Matt managed to sneak in third, with 41; – and, frankly, I’ve a suspicion that if Matt ever manages to put a team together that’s as collectively as bright as he, that score will be getting larger.   I’ve got to admit that they’re all, with the exception of Martin, long term friends of the Hutton quiz, which boosted my emotional state, a lot.   And its quite encouraging to know that, if nowt else, Martin & Sonia, and Lee, Rachel, and their dark-haired mate, decided to do the quiz for their very first time, and had a good time.

But the net result of all this is that, in chatting over things with Aurora; – another former Hutton staffer, like myself and Becky, we –or I should more properly say SHE– managed to come up with a new way of funding the bonus question.   Which I managed to chew over with both old and new teams, and Sue.

Basically, here’s how it’s going to work at the Hutton from now on.

Everyone pay’s £1•20p, instead of the usual £1.

A pound of that goes into the main pot, to be shared by the winners on the night.

The bonus twenty pence goes into a separate kitty – to be looked after by Sue, on-site.

What’ll happen is that I, her, or hopefully Becky* will be able to come up with a seriously tough question, to be asked at the end of the quiz.

Who-ever correctly answers that one question – remind me to tell you about some of the multi-part stinkers Pete used to set – gets the money in the bonus kitty.

If no-one answers it … the kitty rolls over, to the following week.

Rinse and Repeat, to coin a term.

Granted, the original version built up a lot faster, but written up on the outside boards, this sort of thing is a headline grabber.

Good old fashioned hard cash usually is.

Anyway, for now, I’m going to hit the proverbial sack, I am dog tired.

See you in the metaphorical morning.
