The Daily Teaser.

I’ve got to admit, I’ve the telly on, again, as I write this.

And a hotel company’s advert has informed us that we can ‘indulge in our hobbies and leisure interests’.

So what happens if those hobbies include recreational cocaine-fuelled sheep shagging?

That’d be a tough one to raise at the reception desk, wouldn’t it?

I mean, a ewe and a gimp outfit, the receptionist would notice …

You’ve really got to ask if advertising agencies think these thing’s through …

At any rate, before I get too distracted, here’s today’s questions …

Q1) And in 1994, Israel and Jordan sign the Washington Declaration, that ended the state of war that had existed between them since which year of the 1940s?

Q2) 25th July, is also the feast day — in the western churches — of Saint James the Apostle; which European country is he the patron saint of?

Q3) 25th July, 1978, also saw the birth of the world’s first test tube baby; what’s her name?

Q4) 25th July, 1946, saw two Hollywood stars perform their first comedy routine at Club 500; name either of those stars.

Q5) In 1997, K.R. Narayanan became the 10th President of India, and the first what to hold the office?

Q6) And finally, July 25th, 2000, saw Air France Flight 4590 crash just outside Paris. What kind of plane was it?

And here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) July, 24th, 1567, saw James 6th be named as King of Scotland; who was his mother?

A1) Mary, Queen of Scots.

Q2) More to the point, what name did he assume, when he became King of England?

A2) James 1st.

Q3) Just as pointedly, who did he replace, as ruler of England?

A3) Elizabeth 1st.

Q4) Moving on, July 24th, 1924, saw the foundation of FIDE; that’s the governing tournament body for which game?

A4) Chess. (It stands for Fédération Internationale des Échecs)

Q5) July 24th, 1948, saw the release of a Bugs Bunny cartoon called “Haredevil Hare”; which other Warner Brothers character was introduced in this cartoon?

A5) Marvin the Martian.

Q6) Simeon Saxe Coburg Gotha was elected as Prime Minister of Bulgaria, today, in 2001; which office did he hold, as a child?

A6) Bizarrely, he was the last ever Bulgarian Tsar! (Historically, that’s the only time a deposed monarch has assumed a democratically elected office.)

Q7) And finally, July 24th, 1911, saw American archæologist Hiram Bingham discover which lost South American city?

A7) Machu Picchu.

Enjoy those, everyone.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to give that hotel a ring …

Just to put the wind up ’em!
