You know, it’s amazing the stuff you can find on YouTube, it really is …
Now, I know I’ve said many times, that I wasn’t entirely stunned with the prequel “Star Wars” trilogy, I do know that the first episode — “The Phantom Menace” — wasn’t too bad.
Well …
With maybe the introduction of Jar-Jar Binks.
I don’t think I’ve met anyone that was stunned by Jar-Jar Binks.
I know Lucas and company were trying to get the younger audience, but even so … !
Either way, though, I do know that there were parts of the film I was impressed by.
The overall look, for a start, was incredible.
But what grabbed me the most was simply the climatic fight, at the end of the film.
Yeah, THAT big climatic fight, at the end!
OK, now granted I was only about 9 or ten, when it was released, but what got me was the simply the fact that it all looked so new. Or at least, new to me.
Complete with very familiar looking elements. I mean, spaceships, having dogfights?
Wow!
And that’s what struck me with “The Phantom Menace”; the fact the big fight at the end was a variation on a good old fashioned Martial arts movie.
Actually, I’ve got to admi, that fight sequence did kinda get me thinking I should really learn how to do that … !!

And, whilst it’s not as fun as some of his earlier novels, I do know that it’s oh-so-much darker.
The plot’s one that sees an attempt to overthrow Lord Vetinari; with — in this novel — the use of a double.
The twist, here, is the fact a group of dwarves have found out how to turn lead into gold … by inventing a printing press …
Those dwarves, working the lead character, William de Worde, manage to found Ankh-Morpork’s first newspaper. Completely by accident.
With — as the old phrase has it — hysterical results … !
