Watching a Detective …

Hmmm …

Well, there’s a thing …

I know Adrian and me were wondering what Guy Ritchie would be up to next, after “Rock ‘N’ Rolla”.

I think I’ve just found out …

It seems that Christmas Day*, this year, sees the release of his take on …

Well …

I think the poster’s giving you a clue, isn’t it … ?

He’s doing/done a film version of “Sherlock Holmes”.

Now, I’ve got to admit that it looks — from the trailer — to be rather good.

I’m not expecting textural accuracy, here, though.

After all, Arthur Conan Doyle’s legacy has been tinkered with, quite enough over the years. And having grown up on the Jeremy Brett TV version, I feel I can safely say I think I’ve seen the best choice of actor playing the rôle, in a series that kept as close as possible to its sources.

So I’m interesting to see what Mr R can do with the material.

Especially given that he’s cast Jude Law as Dr John H. Watson. Who was reminded in a discussion with a certain Mr Downey, that Watson was a former soldier, a heck of a gambler, and a bit of a womaniser.

This could be worth catching …

* I’ll admit, I can’t see the reasoning for that; beyond the obvious hype, that is! After all, Christmas Day itself is the one day of the year I’d’ve thought many cinema’s would be shut. The cynically hard boiled side of myself is sitting here, thinking “Yeeeeez, but I wanna see the overtime bill on THAT one … !
