The Daily Teaser …

Well, now THERE’S a thing; yesterday’s teaser was a two-way, four out of five, tie!

Big shout out to Sarah and Tim, there!

Actually, chaps, mind me linking you in to your Facebook pages, there?

Yes, no?

Let me know!

Anyway, here’s today’s questions; and, yes, Sarah, this lot’s rather nasty …

Q1) October 11th, 1811, saw the Juliana begin its active life as a ferry; it was the first powered by what?

Q2) 11th October, 1852, saw the founding of Australia’s oldest University; in which Australian city is it?

Q3) Because of the introduction of the new Gregorian Calendar, 11th October, 1582, doesn’t exist in the calendar’s of four European countries; name any of them.

Q4) October 11th, 1910, saw which former US President become — in a demonstration organised by the Wright Brothers — the first to fly in an aeroplane?

Q5) This day in 1962 saw Pope John 23rd call the first ecumenical council organised by the Vatican for 92 years; how is the council better known?

Q6) Today in 1968 saw NASA launch the first manned Apollo mission; which Apollo mission was it?

Q7) And finally, and still with a space theme; today in 1984 saw Kathryn D Sullivan become the woman to do what in space? (Tim, Sue, Saz, I can hear you using the word ‘fellatio’ from here; DON’T!)

And here’s yesterday’s questions and answer; I know Tim, bless him, got thrown by the fact that actor, Yul Brynner died on the same day as actor/director, Orson Welles.

Q1) 10th October, 1911, saw the beginnings of the Wuchang Uprising, which lead to the founding of the Republic of China and the fall of which Imperial Chinese Dynasty?

A1) The Qing Dynasty. (Pronounced Ch ’ing, by the way.)

Q2) Today in 1938, saw the signing of the Munich Agreement, which ceded which part of Czechoslovakia to Germany?

A2) The Sudetenland.

Q3) October the 10th, 1971, saw which London bridge re-open, after it was moved to Arizona?

A3) London Bridge. (The buyer, Robert McCulloch, has consistently denied rumours he thought he was getting Tower Bridge.)

Q4) 10th October, 1917, saw the birth of which noted Jazz pianist?

A4) Thelonius Monk. (There’s a very bad joke about light-fingered monastics doing the rounds, you do know this, don’t you?)

Q5) And finally, today in 1985 saw the death of which American actor and director?

A5) Orson Welles. (Today also saw the death of Yul Brynner.)

Me, nasty? Never!! Enjoy those, folks. I’ll catch you later.

Actually, pointless bit of trivia, here; I once had an old friend tell me that I always reminded him of Orson Welles, in “The Third Man”. Which was flattering. Or more flattering than being told I looked like a thirty stone, dead guy, with a bad gambling habit …
