The Daily Teaser …

I’m sorry, I couldn’t resist the poster, I really couldn’t.

It’s true, though, I can’t; it’s nice to be able to catch a fireworks display, it really is …

•••••

Actually, going off on a side point, Yesterday TV is showing an episode of Infamous Assassinations; the one about the death of John Lennon*. I can remember Lennon’s death.

And still think it was a screaming tragedy.

•••••

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yes, let’s.

Yesterday’s Teaser was interesting to read; I know that first place went to Trevor. Because Tim got the wrong William!

Oy!

At any rate, here’s today’s slightly themed round, along with the ‘How To’; well, it the 5th …

Q1) ‘Remember, Remember, the 5th of November, gunpowder, treason and plot.’ What’s the next two lines?

Q2) In parts on the Midlands, what traditional dish is eaten on Bonfire Night?

Q3) Which conspirator was arrested on November the 5th, in British history?

Q4) More to the point, what building was he trying to blow up?

Q5) Following on, which 2005 film sees Hugo Weaving dress up as this historical figure?

Q6) Which US actress was Hugo Weaving’s co-star, in that film?

Q7) More to the point, who wrote the comic book that film is based on? (Wrote, rather than did the artwork.)

Q8) November 5th, 1940, saw who elected for a third term as US President?

Q9) The body of newspaper tycoon, Robert Maxwell, was found on 5th November, 1991, floating off the island of Tenerife; in which island chain is Tenerife?

Q10) And finally, today in 2000, saw the funeral of which Emperor?

And here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) Today in 1677, saw the future Mary 2nd of England marry which colourful Prince?

A1) Prince William of Orange.

Q2) November 4th, 1956, saw the Soviet Union invade … where ?

A2) Hungary.

Q3) 34 years earlier, 4th November, 1922, saw a famous Egyptologist discover whose tomb?

A3) Tut-Ankh-Amun’s. (Traditionally, ancient Egyptian scribes wrote it as Amun-Tut-Ankh. He was also known, variously, as Tut-Ankh-Aten, Kanakht Tutmesut or Neferhepusegerehtawy Werahamun Nebrdjer. Calling him Fred would’ve been easier. Or Bert, or something …)

Q4) More to the point, which Egyptologist are we talking about?

A4) Howard Carter.

Q5) November 4th, 1979, saw 90 US hostages taken in which Middle Eastern country?

A5) Iran.

Q6) And finally … Today in 1995 saw the assassination of which Middle Eastern politician?

A6) Israeli PM, Yitzhak Rabin.

Enjoy those, folks, I’ll catch you later … !

* I still, to this day, find hero worship distinctly uncomfortable to watch. Princess Diana’s funeral was very much an iffy thing, I thought. Very much so. But I’m also very aware that, in some cases I’m as culpable as the next person; especially when it comes to someone like Lennon.
