Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 13th March, 2018

13th March, 2018.

Yeah …

Wondering …

I have to confess to ordering something on Amazon, on Friday just gone.

A bluray drive, so you know.

Usually?

They’re rather good at dispatching stuff, quickly.

Arrival dates not withstanding, they USUALLY get the package out a day or two ahead of time.

So … ?

The drive I’ve order is due anytime between Wednesday, and Friday.   I’d usually expect to see it, today at the earliest.

None the less … ?

The order tracking page tells me it’s either arriving Friday … or between Wednesday and Friday …

And hasn’t actually been dispatched, yet …

Given Amazon’s* hit rate, in delivering to my door … ?

I’m a little concerned …

 Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi† putting in her answers: scoring five out of five in the process.

Let’s see how she — and you — do with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 13th March is the Kasuga Matsuri: in the Grand Shrine in Tokyo, Japan.   The festival is marked in which Japanese religion?
Q2) Uranus was discovered on 13th March, 1781.   By which astronomer and composer?
Q3) More to the point, Uranus is a what: gas giant, terrestrial planet or dwarf planet?
Q4) Three men and two women went on trial: on 13th March, 1961.   Who were they accursed of spying for: the USA, USSR or the People’s Republic of China?
Q5) 13th March, 1970, saw a by-election won by the Conservatives: in the constituency of Bridgewater.   It was the first time whom could vote: 18 year olds, women or EU residents?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) 12th March, 1938, saw Nazi Germany occupy where?
A1) Austria.
Q2) 12th March, 1984, saw the start of a strike, in the UK: by whom?
A2) The Miners.
Q3) The president of a notorious US union was convicted on bribery charges, on 12th March, 1964:  earning an eight year sentence in the process.   Who was that union leader?
Q4) More to the point?   What union did he lead?
A4) The International Brotherhood of Teamsters: usually just referred to as the Teamsters.
Q5) Finally … what soft drink was sold for the first time, on 12th March, 1894: Pepsi Cola, Coca Cola or Dr Pepper?
A5) Coca Cola.
Here’s a thought …
“I have high hopes of smashing my name into history so violently that it will take a legendary form even if all books are destroyed.”
L. Ron Hubbard, March 13, 1911 – January 24, 1986.
And a tune …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day …

*        A few years ago, I ordered an inward hard drive: a large capacity one that I intended to use as media storage.   It, too, took a dog’s age to be dispatched.   And never actually arrived.   It seems it went missing, somewhere between the warehouse and the back of the van.   You can see why I’m concerned …

†        Enjoy it, Debbi!   (It’s flawed: Lynch managed to turn the Harkonnens‡ into the Three Stooges.   But’s it’s got it’s upsides.   If you’ve got a thing about Sting … )

‡        The TV miniseries did better on that front: casting Ian McNiece as the Baron.

I hope you get your delivery soon. I had a book (not from Amazon) delivered several months later. I have no idea where it went as it had ads for Christmas stuff but didn't reach me until March or April. The company had given me the money back and didn't charge me when I told them I had received it. (It was coming from the US, but still...)

Good luck with your delivery! I'm not wild about Sting, but I loved his old group, The Police. So, as long as he doesn't sing, that's fine! :)
