Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 18-1-2025 — Lima

18th January, 2025.

Yay!

It’s Saturday!

Which means, I and my nephew, Jude, managed to have dinner together, last night.

Jude also managed to get another video done: and posed for another Image Playground photo.

Quite why my nephew’s got blue hair … ?

I really don’t know!

~≈💇‍♂️≈~

One thing that did crop up, when Jude was here?

Was simply the fact people keep dying.

He was saddened to hear about the death of footballer, Denis Law.

Me … ?

Equally as saddened to hear about the deaths of director, David Lynch, and actor, Christopher Benjamin.

They’re going to be missed.

~≈🪦≈~
Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with Olga and Mum scoring five out of five, and Debbi on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        18th January saw the founding of Lima.   In which year of the 1530s?

Q2)        By which Conquistador: Pedro de Alvarado, Francisco Pizarro or Hernán Cortés?

Q3)        It’s the capital of which South American country?

Q4)        The city overlooks which ocean?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Lima’s Cathedral is dedicated to whom: Saint John, Saint David or San Pedro?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        17th January marks the start of the Patras Carnival.   The Carnival is held in which European country?
A1)        Greece.

Q2)        The Doomsday Clock was set to 11:55, on 17th January, 2007.   In response to which country’s nuclear testing>?
A2)        North Korea’s.

Q3)        The Drudge Report broke a story on 17th January, 1998.   That intern, Monica Lewinsky was having an affair with who?
A3)        President Bill Clinton.

Q4)        British Airways Flight 38 crashed just shot of the runway at Heathrow: on 17th January, 2008.   The plane was coming from which Asian city: Beijing, Tokyo or Seoul?
A4)        Beijing.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Operation Desert Storm started on 17th January, 1991.   The operation was a US-led invasion of where: Iran, Iraq or Syria?
A5)        Iraq.
Here’s a motto …
“Hoc Signum Vere Regum Est” (Latin)
“This is the real sign of the Kings”(English)
A song …

And a nod to Lynch …

The next ten question set on 29th January: it’s about Desert Island Discs.

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Yeah, your answers got through, Olga!
Were there a few US cases, Olga?   Of child abuse: where an accuser claimed abuse, and then retracted?   If I remember the news, correctly, there was talk of a ‘false memory syndrome’ that was where the memories were supposed to be wrong, and no basis for a case.   If I’m right, this was about the time of the Orkney Scandal …
Lynch dying is certainly a shock: the man will be much missed!   I’m still very fond of his version of Dune: the design work was incredible!

        Hello, Mum!

Very true, Debbi!   We’ll possibly not be able to speak, one way or the other, until after any court cases … !

I think one of the issues was with "implanted" memories, the idea that people who were easily influenced might start remembering things based on what they had been asked or thing they'd heard from other people, and they become convinced it had actually happened. There experiments that proved that it wasn't that difficult to implant false memories as well, but I think that was something that came out much later.
I also heard Joan Plowright had died on the 16th, and I hadn't heard anything about it either.

Exactly, yeah.

It saddens me, all around.

And David Lynch. Just a matter of time. But it's a huge loss.
