Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 19-1-2025 — Who the Hell is Edgar?

19th January, 2025: Who the Hell is Edgar?

Yes, you’re right!

I am quoting a Eurovision song in the introductory video.

The one today’s teaser takes its title from.

It seem vaguely relevant: although I suspect it would’ve got ma a copyright strike on YouTube!

~≈🐦‍⬛≈~

Oh … whilst we’re on the subject of Edgar … ?

I put an image of him through Apple’s Image Playground app.

Which makes him look vaguely like Kurt Vonnegut.

So it goes …

~≈🐦‍⬛≈~

There’s supposed to be a ceasefire in Israel.

Supposed to be a ceasefire …

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/ckg0znng8x2t

But, functionally … ?   With Israel blaming Hamas, and bombing Gaza, despite its Cabinet approval of the thing?

Is it any wonder I laugh, when I hear the word, ‘ceasefire’?

~≈💣≈~

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with Debbi and Mum scoring five out of five, and Olga on one.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        19th January saw the birth of writer, Edgar Allen Poe.   In which year: 1808, 1809 or 1810?

Q2)        He was born where: Boston, Massachusetts, Boston, Ohio or Boston, Texas?

Q3)        The first collection he published was called Tamerlane and Other … what: poems, essays or short stories?

Q4)        Poe married his cousin, Virginia, in 1835.   How old was she, at the time?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Poe died in which American city?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        18th January saw the founding of Lima.   In which year of the 1530s?
A1)        1535.

Q2)        By which Conquistador: Pedro de Alvarado, Francisco Pizarro or Hernán Cortés?
A2)        Francisco Pizarro.

Q3)        It’s the capital of which South American country?
A3)        Peru.

Q4)        The city overlooks which ocean?
A4)        The Pacific.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Lima’s Cathedral is dedicated to whom: Saint John, Saint David or San Pedro?
A5)        Saint John.
Here’s a thought …
“O, human love! thou spirit given,

On Earth, of all we hope in Heaven!”

“Tamerlane” By Edgar Allen Poe.
And a banging floor filler …

The next ten question set on 29th January: it’s about Desert Island Discs.

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum: see you later!

        Busy morning, yesterday, Olga?
Some how, I’ mot surprised by memories, Olga.   I think something similar happens the claims of re-incarnation: the ‘memories’ tend to be false, in some way.

‡        That it is, Debbi!   The Elephant Man is still something that stands out: it’s one heck of a piece …

Oh, yes, anything relating to past memories is very difficult to prove, but people who believe in it, like in anything else, don't get easily put off.
I was covering an event for the radio this morning (yesterday I was trying to find something in my mother's bedroom, and I ended up spending most of the morning trying to put some order there. The problem is that it won't last either, but I can't help but trying. She used to be very organised, but wherever she goes now, she creates chaos...)
Q1) 1809 (Edgard Allan Poe, not Allen)

Q2) Boston, Massachusetts

Q3) poems

Q4) 13

Q5) Baltimore
