Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 27-2-2025 — The Dominican Republic

27th February, 2025: The Dominican Republic.

Oh, right … that’s a date … !

The BBC have officially announce that the new series of Doctor Who — series fifteen, or season two, what-ever it’s being called, this week — is due to start airing from 12th April, this year.

I’m looking forward to that.

As good as Ncuti Gatwa’s initial performance was, I’m hoping he’ll be a little more restrained, this go-around.

At any rate … ?

You can read more, here.

And oggle my review of season one, here:

~≈👨🏿‍⚕️≈~

What was one thing and another … ?

The Prime Minister is heading for the US: to visit the US president.

Sir Keir has my sympathies: the last thing I’d want to do is deal with a gibbe twerp nutcas person like the current holder of the office.

The president says the USA shouldn’t be involved in Ukraine’s security: unlike Sir Keir, who believes US involvement is crucial.

Personally?

Letting Ukraine join NATO seems to be the best thing.

Except someone doesn’t like that idea, either.

Heigh-ho …

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga†, Irene‡ and Debbi§ putting in their answers: with Olga scoring five out of five, Irene and Debbi on four and Mum on two.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        According to one Wikipedia entry? 27th February is one of two Independence Days in the Dominican Republic.   It marks its independence from where: Haiti, the Spanish Empire or Jamaica?

Q2)        The Republic shares a Caribbean island with another sovereign state.   Which sovereign state: Haiti, Cuba or Jamaica?

Q3)        What’s the Republic’s currency: the Peso, Pound or Pooba?

Q4)        Santo Domingo is the country’s capital.   What’s the Republic’s largest city: Santo Domingo, La Romana or Concepción de la Vega?

Q5)        Finally … ?   The Dominican Republic, and the island it’s on, are in which sea: the Caribbean Sea, Baffin Bay or the South China Sea?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        2000AD was first published on 26th February, 1977¶.   Who was its original publisher: Condé Nast, IPC or Rebellion Publications?
A1)        IPC.

Q2)        Who are its current publishers: Condé Nast, IPC or Rebellion Publications?
A2)        Rebellion Publications.

Q3)        Which character was on the cover of the first issue of 2000AD: MACH 1, Bill Savage or Judge Dredd?
A3)        Agent John Probe: also called MACH 1.   (The strip was a British take on The Six Million Dollar Man.)

Q4)        The first issue of 2000AD came with a free ‘space spinner’.   What was the ‘space spinner’: a frisbee, a sticker or a two foot machete?
A4)        A frisbee.   (The free stickers you got with Starlord were far nicer.)

Q5)        Finally … ?   True or False: 2000AD’s best known strip, Judge Dredd, first appeared in issue 1.   True or False?
A5)        False: he first appeared in issue — or Prog, as the comics refer to them — 2.
Here’s a motto …
“Dios, Patria, Libertad.”
“God, Homeland, Freedom.”
The Motto of The Dominican Republic.
And a national anthem …

The next ten question set is on 1st March: it’s about Ohio.

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!   (Judge Dredd didn’t appear until issue two!)

Yeah: Rebellion’s a complicated organisation, Olga!   At any rate, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for tomorrow: that’s the main one!
Oh, I’ve put an image of your through Image Playground, again, Olga.   Quite how the mic is floating, I don’t know!

Still getting the hang of things, Irene … ?   Oh, yesterday’s 5th answer was ‘false’, rather than ‘yes’, or ‘no’.
Now remind me to mention Image Playground at some point.

§        I certainly hope so, Debbi!   (If you don’t at least fifteen points, I’ll be disappointed!)
Oh, I was after MACH 1, rather than Dan Dare: yes, Dare was on the cover, but he wasn’t one of the options.   (Showing the cover confused someone!   Yay!!!!)

According to this guide, copies of the first issue can go for anything up to £11, 800: around $15, 000 or €14, 200 at the time of writing.

Well, if mics floated it should would make life easier! We will have to keep our eyes open for that first number of the magazine, if it fetches those prices. Good luck tomorrow!
