The Daily Teaser …

Phew!

You know I think I’ve got a job and a half on my hands, I really do.

In between posting up today’s teaser, I’ve agreed to install a copy of Ubuntu’s computer on my sister’s laptop.

And as I’ve said, it’s gonna be a job and a half.

Something’s gone wrong with the hardware on it, SOMEWHERE!

But I’ll probably post more about that, later …

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Andrea, Trevor and Simon all getting 5 out of 5, with Simon bagging the First-In-Clap, and all three of our regulars putting in some very good quotes, indeed: Trevor’s one grabbed me, I must saw.

It was the relevant lines from Sir Winston’s ‘Iron Curtain’ speech.

Let’s see how people do with today’s questions, shall we? Here they are, along with the ‘How To’ and License

Q1) 6th March, 1987, saw a British registered ferry capsize, killing 193 people in the process: what was the name of the ferry?

Q2) 6th March, 1899, saw pharmaceutical company Friedrich Bayer and Co patent which drug?

Q3) 6th March, 1992, saw the first appearance of a computer virus named after which Renaissance artist?

Q4) 6th March, 1619, saw the birth of which noted French dramatist and poet? (Quotes, please folks!)

Q5) More to the point, in Dordogne town is that poet buried?

Q6) And finally … 6th March, 1961, saw the death of which noted, Lancashire-born entertainer?

And here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) 5th March, 1963, saw the formal patenting of which circular toy?
A1) The Hula Hoop.

Q2) 5th March, 1850, saw the opening of which bridge across the Menai Strait in Wales?
A2) The Britannia Bridge.

Q3) Which phrase did Winston Churchill use, in a speech on 5th March, 1946?
A3) “Iron Curtain”.

Q4) Slightly geeky, this question: 5th March, 1975, saw the first meeting of which group of hobbyists?
A4) The Homebrew Computer Club.

Q5) And finally … 5th March, 1904, saw Nikoli Tesla become — in a magazine article — the first person to describe the formation of what … ?
A5) Ball Lightning.

Enjoy those, everyone, I’ll catch you later!

The insufferable arrogance of human beings to think that Nature was made solely for their benefit, as if it was conceivable that the sun had been set afire merely to ripen men's apples and head their cabbages.
