Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 19-8-2018: Caesar Augustus

19th August, 2018.

Yes, I’ve got another early start!

I hate early starts.

But then … ?

I also hate not having money: or a job.

Frankly, though?

I still want to go back to bed!

Mostly to sleep.

But also because I’m reading Moorcock’s Behold the Man.

I love being a mass of contradictions.

~≈§≈~

At any rate?

And in the awareness I’m not going to see anything about it, this early of a Sunday morning … ?

But it’s still frustrating to not have a formal airdate for the first episode of Dr Who’s eleventh series.

Aaarrrghghghgh …

Is putting it mildly …

Especially when the BBC’s made another big announcement about Strictly …

Oy veh …

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 19th August, 43BC, saw Augustus named as Consul.   By whom?
Q2) Many of us call Augustus the first Roman Emperor.   He would used the title, ‘Princeps Civitatis.’   Which meant (roughly) first … what?
Q3) Augustus was divi filius: ‘son of a god/son of god/son of a divine.’   In other words, he was the adopted son of whom?
Q4) Whilst leader, Augustus completed the Roman conquest of which ‘H’?
Q5) Finally … ?   Augustus died on 19th August.   In which year?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) 18th August is the feast day of Saint Alberto Hurtado.   He was a member of which order: the Cistercians, Jesuits or Benedictines?
A1) The Jesuits.
Q2) The Pendle Witch Trials, one of Britain’s first witch trials, started on 18th August, 1612.   The witches were from which English county?
A2) Lancashire.   (Indeed, two of the witches, Alice Nutter, and Elizabeth Device, inspired the names of two characters in Good Omens.   People always accused Terry Pratchett of making up funny names.   He always pointed out there’s at least one E. Weatherwax in the New York phone book …)
Q3) Which country was banned from the Olympics: on 18th August, 1964?
Q4) Virginia Dare, the first English child born in the Americas, was born on 18th August, 1587: in the famously lost colony of Roanoke Island.   The Colony was in what’s now which US state?
Q5) President Pervez Musharraf resigned as President: on 18th August, 2008.   President of where?
A5) Pakistan.
Here’s a thought …
“Iuravit in mea verba tota Italia.”

Trans “The whole of Italy swore allegiance to me.”

Augustus.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        Hang on, Olga, James Bond movies send you to sleep?   Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy might work better for you.   Or keep you up all night!   At any rate, have a good time, with what you’re doing!

†        Glad to hear it, Debbi!   I’ll try not to give away the twist in Book Two!   (Lancaster’s the city and county town of Lancashire: Lancashire’s the county!)

Yes, James Bond movies send me to sleep. (I've never quite bought into the James Bond franchise and don't particularly like the guy, although do like some of the look and the songs). Yes, despite the noise, explosions, etc, it's not for me. Spy books also don't usually work well for me, especially when there are tons of characters and we don't get to know them well (and all with similar names as well). Oh well...
I don't know if I'll be able to visit tomorrow, but if I don't, I'll see you in September. All the best!

What I found online was a bit confusing about Lancashire and Lancaster.

There is a Baltimore City and Baltimore County here. They're separate. Entirely!

1. Julius Caesar
2. citizen
3. God
4. Hispania
5. 14 AD
