You know, you can tell Movie Night’s going slightly strange, I swear blind!
When — for starters — the film’s a touch odd.
And secondly, the post movie conversation goes …
Well …
All OVER the place, is the best way to put it.
I mean, everywhere from bullying, Freudianism, whether Carl Jüng was trying to found his own religion, shamanism, astigmatic reptiles, and Samba file sharing within Mac OS X 10.4.x.
Actually, I added one of those, just to keep the structure of that last paragraph going. See if you can guess which one.
I’ll tell you later …
A guy’s got to have some mysteries …
At any rate, if you hadn’t guessed, myself, Adrian, and Kevin Z were happily watching Sacha Baron Cohen’s Brüno, tonight.
And I’ve got to give Cohen credit for guts!
Now, I’ve got to admit, I’ve not actually seen any of his other films, so this — for me — was something of a new one on me …
And I’ll admit, I actually found it funnier than I though I would.
I’ll confess, his Ali G character had — for me — began to pale, a touch, which was why I’d not caught the film.
But Brüno?
Brüno, on the other hand, was a bit different.
As it was — for me — fairly new.
Cringe-makingly funny, but new.
And believe me, there’s parts that I found more cringe-making, than funny: though I can put up with penises waggling in me face.
Unlike that focus group, but they did seem to have a point …
It does actually make sense in the context of the film, trust me!
But watching Cohen wandering through the Orthodox Jewish part of Jerusalem, wearing a (slightly) camp version of Orthodox Jewish costume, I was definitely cringing! And not surprised that he almost got lynched by at least one Orthodox Jew.
The leader of the al-Aqsa Brigade threatening to shoot him was almost a side issue …
•••••
But can I get to my point, here*?
I’m thinking that Brüno is certainly worth catching.
For the Cage-fightingº scene, if nothing else.
* You’ll forgive this post being a bit short, I hope. It is getting late … !
º Just so you know, we never got near talking about Freudianism. Nor his position on rhubarb …
