The Daily Teaser — 12-4-2014: Waving The Flag

Yoicks!

That was a late night.

You know I’m a movie fan, don’t you … ?

There’s not many I get a chance to see at The cinema: so I tend to rent them from iTunes.

I did that last night: managing to get hold of The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug.

Which is a nice piece of work, I should add: and one I’m polishing up a post for, as we speak.

Saying that … ?

Saying that, it’s two hours and forty-one minutes long: including some ten minutes of credits.

Ten MINUTES of credits!

BOY, but that means you get to bed, late … !

But let’s get a move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* putting in her answers: as well as doing her first video, she scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how she — and you — do with today’s flag themed questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How ToLicense and video …

Q1) 12th April saw Great Britain adopt the Union flag for its ships.   Those ships were from Great Britain’s two constituent nations.   Name either.
Q2) In which year was this?
Q3) Name either of the saint’s flags used in the then Union Flag.
Q4) Who was the English king who ordered the flag’s creation: James 1st or James 6th … ?
Q5) In which year was the Union flag formally adopted as the flag of Great Britain: 1706, 1707 or 1708 … ?

Q7) From 1801, which saint’s cross was added to the flag?

Q9) Which member of the Spice Girls famously wore a Union Jack dress at the 1997 BRIT Awards?
Q10) Finally … which member of Oasis had a Union flag guitar?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 11th April, 1961, saw the beginning of the war crimes trial of Adolf Eichmann.   In which country … ?
A1) Israel.
Q2) 11th April, 1989, saw Ron Hextall became the first goalie to score a goal in his sport’s championship playoffs.    What sport IS it?
Q3) 11th April, 1970, saw the launch of the ill-fated Apollo 13 mission.   Who played the mission’s commander, Jim Lovell, in the 1995 film about Apollo 13?
A3) Tom Hanks.
Q4) 11th April, 1979, saw Idi Amin deposed.   Which African nation had he been dictator of … ?
A4) Uganda.
Q5) Finally … 11th April, 1945, saw US troops liberate the Buchenwald Concentration Camp.   In which European country was that camp … ?
A5) Germany.
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“The flag of empire has lost its sting, and at least in part, because pop forgot about critique.”
Owen Hatherley, writing for The Guardian.
And this tune by Union Jack …

Have a good day.
