The Daily Teaser — 11-11-2015: Armistice Day

Right, it’s officially official.

I’m off back to work, today.

I’m …

In two minds about that, actually.

On the one hand … ?

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time off: even though I’ve done nothing more interesting than sat around the house, watching movies.   Oh … and  write the Gazette’s December Teasers.

I’d not mind a bit more, to be frank!

On the OTHER hand … ?

Well, on the OTHER hand, and I don’t know about you: but I’m very slowly developing an expensive Amazon habit.

Which means getting paid.

Plus, on top of all THAT … ?

Well … I’m starting to get a little bored, stuck indoors.

Time to get back into the swing of things …

~≈Ÿ≈~

But let’s get moving on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* and Olga† putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s Armistice questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How ToLicense and video …

Q1) 11th November is Armistice Day.   It originally marked the Armistice at the end of which World War?
Q2) The Armistice ended the fighting where: the Eastern Front, Western Front or Southern Theatres?
Q3) The Armistice was signed between Germany and the Allies: which included France, the British Empire and the Russian Empire.   The Allies were also known as what ‘E’?
Q4) Which French general was both head of the Allies joint armed forces: AND the man who wrote much of the Armistice?
Q5) The Armistice was heavily influenced by the Fourteen Points: first enumerated by the (then) US President.   Which US President?
Q6) The terms of the Armistice included one that insisted Germany surrender its minenwerfers.   These devices were what: machine guns, mortars or anti-aircraft guns?
Q7) The Two Minute Silence — marking the Armistice, in many parts of the world — has its origins in which country?
Q8) Many will wear the traditional red poppy, in the run up to Armistice Day.   Those of us who are pacifists, will wear what colour poppy?
Q9) The Armistice was signed in a what: troop transport, railway carriage or lorry?
Q10) Finally … what was the name of the organization founded in the wake of the War: and mentioned in Point 14 of the Points mentioned in Question 5?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 10th November, 2009, saw ships from two countries navies skirmish off an island in the Yellow Sea.   Name either of the countries involved.
A1) North and South Korea.
Q2) The very first Breeders Cup took place on 10th November, 1984.   The Cup is a what: pigeon race, greyhound race or horse race?
Q3) An earthquake took place on 10th November, 1940: with its epicentre in the Vrancea region of the Carpathians.   The region is in which European country?
A3) Romania.
Q4) Todor Zhivkov was removed from office: on 10th November, 1989.   He was the Communist leader of which country?
A4) Bulgaria.
Q5) Finally … 10th November, 1697, saw the birth of which English illustrator and satirist?
I’ll leave you with this …
“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.”
For The Fallen, Laurence Binyon.
And this …

The Two Minute Silence is at 11, today.

Have a good day …

*        It should be easy to find, in that case, Debbi‡: I know the show’s on the UK branch of Netflix.   Oh, it’s on Showtime, in the US, if you’ve got it as part of your package.

†        It’s in a number of formats, Olga: I think the DVD/blu-ray versions will come with Spanish sub-titles.   Although lord KNOWS how they handle some of the odder dialogue, in Season Two … !   (They invent a language for Season Two, called the Verbis Diablo: indeed, the second episode takes its name from the language.)

‡        Oh, Billie Piper’s in it, Debbi.   I found it interesting to see her: I only know really know her from Dr Who, and her singing career.   Which doesn’t really show you the range she covers, in Penny Dreadful … !
