The Daily Teaser — 13-11-2015

You know, this is going to sound … odd.

Possibly.

But I bumped into an old family friend, on Saturday: one I’d not seen for some years.   And didn’t think to ask for contact details.

Now … ?

I can’t get her face out of my head.

Quite what’s happening there, I don’t know.

Well …

I think I know what’s happening: I’m blowed if I’m telling you … !

Either way … ?

It’s been bothering me for a week.

Quite probably?   It’ll bother me for a while.

Well … until something else turns up …

~≈Ç≈~

But let’s get moving on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw both Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How ToLicense and video

Q1) 13th November, 354AD, saw the birth of Saint Augustine of Hippo.   He’s the patron saint of whom: brewers, hoteliers or cheese-makers?
Q2) More to the point, the now gone city of Hippo was in what’s now which North African country?
Q3) Which country voted to join the EU: on 13th November, 1994?
Q4) Which Walt Disney film premiered on 13th November, 1940: Snow White, Dumbo or Fantasia?
Q5) The Times began publication, on 13th November, 1979.   After a year long what?
Q6) Finally … 13th November, 1841, was the date surgeon, James Braid, saw a demonstration of what was then called ‘animal magnetism’ and subsequently studied it.   As a result, animal magnetism is now in regular use: and generally called what?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) Who was crowned as Emperor of Japan, on 12th November, 1990?
A1) Emperor Akhihito.
Q2) That same day — 12th November, 1990 — Sir Tim Berners-Lee publish his proposals for the World Wide Web.   Are the Web and the Internet, the same thing?
A2) No.   While it’s easy for us laypeople to assume so, they’re not.   If I’ve understood it correctly, the ’Net is the world wide network of connected computer networks.   The World Wide Web is one type of traffic on that network.
Q3) Yuri Andropov became the General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union: on 12th November, 1982.   Who did he succeed?
A3) Leonid Brezhiv.
Q4) Morocco, Tunisia and Sudan joined the United Nations: on 12th November, 1956.   All three countries are on which continent?
A4) Africa.
Q5) Finally … the Voyager 1 probe took photos of Saturn’s rings: on the 12th November, 1980.   The Rings consist largely, but not exclusively, of particles made from what: water ice, methane ice or hydrogen ice?
A5) Water ice.
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“Most of all, I dislike this idea nowadays that if you’re a black person in America, then you must be called African-American.   Listen, I’ve visited Africa, and I’ve got news for everyone: I’m not an African.   The Africans know I’m not an African.   I’m an American.   This is my country.   My people helped to build it and we’ve been here for centuries.   Just call me black, if you want to call me anything.”
Whoopi Goldberg, born November 13, 1955.
And this tune …

Have a good day …

*        You do … ?   I’m mildly impressed, Olga!   I know my family keep suggesting I volunteer for Phoenix FM, my local station: I think the last thing Brentwood need is me banging on at them … !   (Oh, ELO … ?   I still think Mr Blue Sky had the best last line of any song ever written … )

†        Have fun with THAT, Debbi!   If you bump into the guys that wrote Star Wars: The Force Awakens, can you wangle a few spoilers from them, please?   I’m … curious … !
