The Daily Teaser — 21-11-2015: World Television Day

You know, I THINK we could be looking at a nasty winter.

Possibly.

As I write, I’ve got the heating on.

Nothing new, there, this time of year.

But I’m ALSO aware was definitely nippy, yesterday: and looking JUST as nippy, today.

Personally … ?

I think wearing a jumper, when I go to work, will be an idea.

Maybe other clothes, too!

~≈Ú≈~

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s teaser saw Debbi* putting in her answers: scoring four out of five in the process.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How ToLicense and video …

Q1) 21st November is World Television Day: as defined by the UN’s General Assembly.   It marked the first meeting of the UN’s World Television Forum: in which year of the 1990s?
Q2) If a TV can only show a monochrome picture, it’s known as what?
Q3) The first mention of the word ‘television’ was in a research paper: read to a conference in Paris.   In which year of the 20th Century?
Q4) The first part of the word, ‘television’ — ‘tele’ — comes from Greek.   It means, roughly, what:‘far-off’, ‘nearby’ or ‘fourth wall’?
Q5) In the UK, the invention of television is generally credited to which Scotsman?
Q6) Many older TV sets were what were called CRT sets.   In other words they used a cathode ray … what?
Q7) Those CRT sets had pictures made up of hundreds of dots: each in one of three colours.   Name one of those colours.
Q8) Older TVs are analogue TVs.   Newer ones are what: delicious, digital or dehydrating?
Q9) Many modern TVs are high definition TVs: and are 1080p, 1080i or 720p.   The numbers refer to the TV picture’s what: height or width?
Q10) Finally … NHK is the national TV broadcaster in which Asian country?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 20th November, 1975, saw the death of Spanish dictator, General Franco.   Who was his designated successor, as Spain’s ruler?
A1) Prince — later, King — Juan Carlos.
Q2) 20th November, 1998, saw the launch of the Zarya module: from Baikonur, in Kazakhstan.   It’s part of which orbiting object?
Q3) 20th November, 1917: the date saw the start, during World War 1, of the Battle of Cambrai.   Cambrai — and the battlefield — are in which European country?
A3) France.
Q4) 20th November, 1965, saw the birth of rapper and drummer, Mike D.   Mike found fame with which New York based rap band?
A4) The Beastie Boys.   Apparently, he’s ALSO a noted interior decorator …
Q5) Finally … which of the Kennedy brothers was born on 20th November, 1925?
I’ll leave you with this quote from Network
“Television is not the truth.   Television is a goddamned amusement park.”
From Network (1976), written by Paddy Cheyefsky.
And these† relevant songs …

Have a good day …

*        Urban toilet myth … ?   I don’t know about that one, Debbi: I always thought the urban toilet myth was the Sewer ’Gators … !   (They got flushed down the loo, when they started getting bigger …)

†        Although I’ve always preferred Les Boys … so to speak …
