The Daily Teaser — 26-11-15: The Heist.

You know, I’m glad — at the mo — I’ve got the day off.

Frankly … ?

It’s raining.   Heavily.

So I’m possibly staying in.

Which is helpful, actually.

Mostly because I’ve got a blog: as I’m sure you’ve worked out, by now.

The free time means I can get some videos prepped up for the next few days.

It is — to use the old phrase — all good … !

~≈Ê≈~
But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* and Olga† putting in their answers: with Debbi scoring 5 out of 5, and Olga scoring 4.

Let’s see  how everyone does with today’s themed questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How ToLicense and video

Q1) 26th November, 1983, saw robbers steal gold, cash and jewelry from the Brinks MAT warehouse.   The warehouse was near which airport: Stanstead, Heathrow or Gatwick?
Q2) According to the BBC report, the haul was worth how much: £25 million, £35 million or £45 million?
Q3) How much is that in today’s money: £28 million, £66 million or £78 million?
Q4) The stolen gold was in the shape of gold bars.   How many gold bars: 3400, 6800 or 13600?
Q5) Those bars were a standard size: what’s known as a ‘Good Delivery’ bar.   Each such bar weighs an average of 400 troy what?
Q6) Those gold bars would be marked to show which UK assayers office they’d been certified by.   What are these marks called?
Q7) How many people do police think were involved in the Brink’s MAT robbery: ten, fifteen or twenty?
Q8) Great Train Robber, Charlie Wilson, is said to have laundered some of the haul.   He, eventually, was shot in 1990: in which Spanish city?
Q9) Kenneth Noye — who laundered some of the Brink’s Mat Gold — was eventually convicted of the notorious Road Rage killing of Stephen Cameron.   In which year of the 1990s WAS that killing?
Q10) Finally … John ‘Goldfinger’ Palmer was acquitted of involvement in the Brink’s MAT robbery.   In which Essex town did he live?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) Suriname gained its independence from the Netherlands: on the 25th November, 1975.   Suriname is on which continent?
A1) South America.
Q2) 25th November, 1965, saw the birth of actor, Dougray Scott.   He played Dr Bill Masen, in the 2009 BBC adaptation of which John Wyndham novel?
A2) Day of the Triffids.
Q3) 25th November is the feast day of Saint Catherine of Alexandria.   As well as having a firework named after her, she’s the patron saint of whom: potters, cheese-wrights or dairy farmers?
A3) Potters.
Q4) 25th November, 1974, saw the death of Burmese politician, U Thant.   He’d ALSO served in which role, at the United Nations?
A4) As General Secretary.
Q5) Finally … 25th November, 1981, saw Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger named as head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.   The Congregation had — historically — also been known as what: the Exquisition, the Inquisition or the Vatican Bank?
A5) The Inquisition.
I’ll leave you with this observation …
“Despite dogged police work spanning nearly two decades, it it seems most of those involved have simply got away with it - and most of the gold will never be recovered.”
From the BBC news report on Brink’s MAT.
And possibly the one tune I could use …

Have a good day.   Don’t get rained on!

*        You know, I don’t know, Debbi.   I know BrainyQuote attributes a similar one to Winston Churchill.   I first came across it in Terry Pratchett’s The Truth: the Annotated Pratchett Files say it’s originally attributed to Twain.   I THINK that, if we could actually ask Mr Clemens, he’d probably say he got it off Oscar Wilde …

†        It’s always the way, isn’t it, Olga?   We think a box set’s going to last a few series, and, five years in … !   Saying that … ?   Most of the series I’ve watched over the years tend to be a bit shorter: the remake of Battlestar Galactica  lasted about four years, I seem to recall.   Heartland sounds like it’s going to be like Coronation Street or Eastenders: around for some time!   (Have you thought about seeing if it’s on Netflix or Amazon Prime?   Streaming it to a TV dongle would save you some shelf space, if nothing else!)

Sorry, no time for questions today (I spent too long on a translation I'm doing) but thanks for the answers. I would have been wondering who she was patron Saint of forever.
I'm with Amazon Prime, so that's how I'm watching Heartland (I have Fire Stick thingy). I tried it because of a recommendation but I keep adding serie after series to my Watchlist. Mind you I have a few queued up that might take me a while to watch (I don't dedicate it much time).
I'm also trying to learn German with Duolingo (not going very fast...) and now Coding with another free site (Freecode camp). So it's not that surprising I don't have time for much.
Be well!
