The Daily Teaser — 28-11-2015

Hmmm …

It’s officially Lighting Up Brentwood day.

Yep …

My home town is going to be turning on its Christmas lights.

I’m working.

And frankly?

I’m expecting work to be busy: I’m doing working from 14:30, until 20:30.   JUST in case you fancy some cheap chicken.

Or if you’d like to raise money.

Yes.   That’s right.   We’re going to be wearing silly Christmas hats or jumpers for charity.

Bah … HUMBUG … !

~≈Â≈~

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw both Debbi* and Olga† putting in their answers: with both scoring seven out of seven in the process.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How ToLicense and video …

Q1) 28th November, 1907, saw the opening of the Orpheum: a 600 seat cinema in what’s now Haverhill, Massachusetts.   Which former scrap dealer opened it?
Q2) 28th November, 2010, saw five newspapers release US diplomatic cables: in various parts of the world.   The newspapers were working with which whistle-blowing website?
Q3) 28th November is Republic Day: in which African nation?
Q4) 28th November, 1660, saw the formal founding of the Royal Society.   Which of its 12-man founding committee also designed Saint Paul’s Cathedral?
Q5) Finally … 28th November, 1905, saw the founding of which Irish political party?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 27th November, 1810, saw Theodore Hook perpetrate what’s now called the Berners Street Hoax: by getting deliveries sent to 54, Berners Street.   The Street, and the hoax, were in which London City?
A1) The City of Westminster.   Technically, central London is much like Budapest: they’re both twin cities that make up a greater whole.   London in this case, comprises Westminster and the City of London.
Q2) 27th November, 1942, saw the scuttling of French Naval ships: by The French Navy, itself.   In order to keep the ships and submarines out of the hands of whom?
Q3) More to the point, this was in which French port?
Q4) 27th November, 1978, saw the killing of Harvey Milk: the first openly gay politician in the US.   Which US city was he the elected Supervisor of?
Q5) The Portuguese Royal Family escaped Portugal’s capital city, on 27th November, 1807: fleeing which Emperor’s troops?
A5) Napoleon’s.
Q6) More to the point, what IS the capital of Portugal?
A6) Lisbon.
Q7) Finally … Surgeons in France carried out the first successful partial what: on 27th November, 2005?
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“Whenever I came up against presidents of other companies, I was always smarter, because I was from the streets.”Berry Gordy Jr, born 28th November, 1929.
And this Rachmaninoff piece: as it debuted, today, in 1909 …

Have a good day.

*        It’s partly why I threw in the question, Debbi: it had a Brentwood connection, AND was very relevant.   What CAN I tell you … ?   Apart from the fact I’m setting up my timers for tonights episodes of Dr Who.

†        That’s always a good thing, Olga: it’s also — in part — why I keep working on the Teasers: keeping the brain going!   (Now I think of it, Olga, wasn’t there some sort of research showing that those who’d kept themselves mentally active, ALSO had a reduced chance of developing Alzheimer’s?   I’m sure I saw something like that, float past …)
