The Daily Teaser — 30-11-2015: Saint Andrew’s Day

Right … It’s a Monday.

Which means, of course, that I’m looking forward to another new week.

And more to the point?

I’m actually looking forward to a day off.

Tomorrow.

Frankly, I’m planning to put my feet up, after work, today.

Which I’m just hoping will be quiet.

We’ll probably have to see, won’t we?

~≈Â≈~

But let’s get moving on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s Saint Andrew’s themed questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How Tolicense and video …

Q1) 30th November is Saint Andrew’s Day: marking the feast of the patron saint of Scotland.   It marks the day the saint was said to have been crucified.   In which Greek city: Athens, Patras or Corinth?
Q2) Which Apocryphal book is said to be the earliest record of Andrew’s works?
Q3) Amongst other things, Saint Andrew is considered the patron saint of whom: greengrocers, fishmongers or candle-makers?
Q4) Saint Andrew is also said to be the brother of whom: Saint Peter, Saint Paul or Saint Timothy?
Q5) Saint Andrew is said to have originally been a disciple of John the Baptist.   But in which of the Gospels?
Q6) As well as Scotland, Saint Andrew is the patron saint of the country whose capital is Bucharest.   Which country is that?
Q7) Talking of Scotland … The Scots flag is the Saltire, or Saint Andrew’s cross.   What mythical creature is considered to be Scotland’s traditional heraldic animal?
Q8) What’s the traditional plant of Scotland?
Q9) Who’s the current First Minister of Scotland?
Q10) Finally … name one of the three Scottish banks legally allowed to issue banknotes.
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 29th November, 1975, saw the plane crash that killed which racing driver?
A1) Graham Hill.
Q2) More to the point, that racing driver has a surviving motor racing son.   Who IS that son?
A2) Damon Hill.   (My street has blocks of flats named after sportspeople: mine is named after Damon Hill.)
Q3) 29th November, 1981, saw the death of actress, Natalie Wood: in a boating accident.   Which film had she been filming, at the time of her death?
A3) Brainstorm
.
Q4) 29th November, 1877, saw the first demonstration of the Phonograph: by Thomas Edison.   Were those first phonographs ‘discs’ cylinders, discs or spheres?
A4) Cylinders.
Q5) Finally … 29th November, 1972, saw the original release of PONG: the world’s first commercially successful video game.   Which US company released it?
A5) Atari.   (The word, itself, is Japanese: and comes form the game, Go.   It’s roughly equivalent to Check, in Chess: if I’ve understood it correctly.)
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“There’s just no place like Scotland when the sun is out. I just love coming home.”
Ashley Jensen.
And this tune …

Have a good day …

*        Funny old thing, Olga: I was in my local Sainsbury’s, over the weekend: they were doing the Now TV box, Sky’s version of the AppleTV /Fire TV, for some £15.   It amazes me how these things are proliferating.

†        It’s a VERY good episode, Debbi!   (Oh, my review of it is here, if you wanted to comment … )
