Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 13-6-2017

OK, I’ve realised something …

Right here and now, I’ve realised that today’s song — This Year’s Love, by David Gray — seems very appropriate.

OK, I may not be this year’s love: unless you’ve got very strange taste in men!

But the penniless, “I’ve left a tenner in the cash machine,” saga continues.

Because?

Well, I went to the high street, yesterday: to at least try and reclaim the now lost tenner.

That’s not a problem: that’s now officially been refunded.

But … ?

I checked my wallet on the way to the bank: to make sure I could hand over my details when I got to the bank.

Only to find I’d lost that, too.

What I’d done?

Once I’d realised I forgotten the tenner, on Sunday?

I went back to the cash machine to check my balance … and forgotten to take the card out, once I’d finished … !

Ever had one of those weekends?

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) James Boulware attacked the HQ of his city’s police: on 13th June, 2015.   Which city’s police was that?
Q2) The last Beatles song to become US number one, did so on 13th June, 1970.   Which song was it?
Q3) The Yukon Territory was formed: on 13th June, 1898.   The then capital of Yukon was the town of Dawson.   What’s Yukon’s current capital?
Q4) Who got a ticker tape parade: on 13th June, 1927?
Q5) Finally … Charles 3rd became ruler of the Holy Roman Empire.   He was also known as Charles the what: Fat, Bald or Great?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) Clarence Aglin, John Aglin and Frank Morris all escaped: on 12th June, 1962.   From Alcatraz.   They dug their way out of their cells with sharpened what?
A1) Spoons.   (They couldn’t use a Rita Hayworth poster, oh no … !   Too damn easy … !)
Q2) Six Irish regiments due to be disbanded, handed their Colours — their regimental regalia — to the king: on 12th June, 1922.   Which King?
A2) Edward 5th.   (Those regiments were the Royal Irish Regiment, the Connaught Rangers, the Leinster Regiment, the Royal Muster Fusiliers, the Royal Dublin Fusiliers and the South Irish Horse.   They were disbanded during Independence.)
Q3) 12th June, 1987, saw President Ronald Reagan challenge Mikhail Gorbachev: to tear down what?
A3) The Berlin Wall.
Q4) Helsinki was formally founded: on 12th June, 1550.   The city is the largest in which modern European country?
A4) Finland.
Q5) Finally … 12th June, 1991, saw who elected as President of Russia?
Here’s the song I mentioned …

And a thought …
“The only business of the head in the world is to bow a ceaseless obeisance to the heart.”
W. B. Yeats, 13 June 1865 – 28 January 1939.
Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s teaser …

Have a good day.

*        Good grief!   8 track cartridges are even older than VHS, Olga: that’s if I’ve that right.   And about as had to find as an old fashioned JAZ drive!   At ANY rate?   I hope you manage to find a suitable replacement for that VHS machine.   I think, these days, there’s not as many DVD or Blu-ray players with record functions.   A lot of companies seem to be focusing on smart TVs or media players, instead: that allow you to access catchup services.   (Drat … I’ve still got a couple of old JAZ discs sitting around, lord knows how I’ll get stuff off them!)

†        You’re not wrong, there, Debbi: the news is the gift that keeps on giving!   There’s woman in Hull who’s car got invaded by bees, for example!   Someone’s got to do something with that … !   (As for cash … ?   I think I’ve had one of those weeks!  Oy veh … !)

You're indeed having a bad week. It is the TV that needs replacing (not urgently) and yes, hopefully, it will be a SMART TV and we won't need many other devices (although we still have VHS and DVD tapes). I still have floppy disks but apart from one that had been corrupted and I left with my cousin to see if he could recover any of the stories, I have the rest of the content on my computer. Perhaps I'll use them for one of those vintage decorating projects...
