Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 5-11-2017: Gunpowder, Treason and PLOT!

That’s mildly surprising.

Facebook does these poll things, when you post.

I think they’re aimed at business users of the site: just to get an idea of what’s popular, and what’s not.

I posted one up to a Facebook group I belong to, just recently.

Just to find out what people thought was THE best love song going.

Frankly?

Hazel O’Connor’s Will You is proving popular.

It’s at the top of the list.

For good reason, I think.   I’ve felt, for years, that it’s the perfect summary of that moment: when an evening could end in a couple …

Or in someone going home after a nice night out, not realising what some of the undertones were.

~≈Ê≈~

Of course, the one I’m surprised isn’t doing better?

Is an old favourite, kd lang’s Miss Chatelaine.

Which is possibly the morning after Will You.

Whenever’s it’s being sung, though?

I still think Miss Chatelaine’s the perfect honey moon song: just capturing that wheeeee moment of new love, perfectly.

Oh, well …

Here’s hoping it crawls up the rankings!

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 5th November is Guy Fawkes Night: marking the night in 1605 when plotters tried blowing up the House of Commons.   The plot is ALSO known as what G plot?
Q2) It’s also know as the Catesby Plot, after its leader.   What was his first name?
Q3) Catesby was exhumed, after death, and had his head put on a spike.   ‘Exhumed’ means he was dug out of his burial plot.   In other words, out of his … what?
Q4) A plotter is what kind of computer peripheral?
Q5) A fishy plot device that throws you off the scent, is a red what?
Q6) On a similar line?   A story that goes in an unexpected direction, is said to have a plot … what?
Q7) What C is ALSO a plot?
Q8) The 20th July Plot had Claus von Stauffenberg at its heart.   In an attempt to assassinate whom?
Q9) The Ridolfi Plot, the Throckmorton Plot and the Babington Plot, were plans to assassinate, kill or replace which Queen?
Q10) Finally … The Gunpowder Plot was trying to blow up which king?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) US Presidential elections were held on 4th November, 2008: which resulted in the first African American US President.   Who was he?
Q2) Twenty-eight years earlier, US elections held on 4th November, 1980.   And won by whom?
Q3) The Saalschutz Abteilung were renamed on 4th November, 1921: as the SA, or Sturmabteilung.   They were either security or thugs, working for whom: the Nazi party, the German Communists or the Spanish Nationalists?
A3) The Nazis.
Q4) 4th November is the feast day of Saint Felix of Valois.   Valois was where: Switzerland, France or Luxembourg?
A4) France.
Q5) Finally?   Salvador Allende became president: on 4th November, 1970.   Of where?
A5) Chile.
Here’s a quote …
“You can’t remember the plot of the Dr Who‡ movie because it didn’t have one, just a lot of plot holes strung together. It did have a lot of flashing lights, though.”
Sir Terry Pratchett, 28 April 1948 – 12 March 2015.
Another quote …
“I hate plots.”
Per Petterson.
And a video …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

*        Yes, I read that about Prince Valiant, as well, Olga.   I know a lot of magazine publishers used a similar idea for assorted partworks.   And I think some publishers do similar collected editions, as well.   (Just had a lot at the collected Valiants on Amazon: oy VEH!)   Joanna Lumley would make a great Morgana: but I always loved Katie McGrath in Merlin.   (THINK they used Old Anglo-Saxon whenever a character cast spells.)

†        Cat was always one of the funnier characters, Debbi.   I seem to recall there’s an epode where the gang end up in a parallel universe: where they met female versions of themselves.   Apart from Cat.   He female opposite … is actually a dog … (You’d THINK someone would’ve posted it to YouTube, by now, but noooo … !)

‡        I could never work out if Sr Terry was talking about the two 1960s Dalek films, or the Paul McGann tv movie!

Q1) Gunpowder Plot.
Q2) Robert
Q3) Grave (there could be a number of answers to this. Resting place?) I’ve recently finished reading a book called Silhouettes where the characters are dead but still there (sort of, although the living can’t see them) and they do wonder what else can happen to somebody who is already dead. I guess they can chop your body off, not that you’d know it.
Q4) A computer printer for printing vector graphics
Q5) Herring
Q6) Twist
Q7) conspiracy
Q8) Adolf Hitler
Q9) Queen Elizabeth I
Q10) King James I of England and VI of Scotland
I've never watched Merlin the series. It's quite funny because I always find it in Spain as I'm coming here, or here as I'm going there. I just noticed 'I Know Who You Are' yesterday in the BBC, a Spanish series, but as I have not watched the rest I started with the first two episodes. Not bad (and it takes place in Barcelona). Now I'm wondering if it wouldn't be better to wait until my mother comes in a couple of weeks as that way we'll have something to watch in Spanish.
Happy Sunday!
