“Flowers are happy things.”

“Golf, like measles, should be caught young.”

“Memories are like mulligatawny soup in a cheap restaurant. It is best not to stir them.”

“There is only one cure for gray hair. It was invented by a Frenchman. It is called the guillotine.”

"The mood will pass, sir." ”

“Well, there it is. That's Jeeves. Where others merely smite the brow and clutch the hair, he acts. Napoleon was the same.”

OK, Trevor, here’s a challenge from a layman, for you and Kaiju: let’s see ‘Hello World’ in COBOL …

And is it me, Kaiju, but did Wodehouse have a VERY good point about Trousers … ?

COBOL is like the English Langauge. There are many dialects of it. It was originally designed for commercial main frames running commercial appliactions and at one time the only two human readable output was the 120 characterprint outs- later these became 132 chars wide and there was the control console which was printed upon an 80 character wide paper roll.

so the easiest way to say hello world was ;_

DISPLAY "Hello World" upon Console.

later on with Micro-Focus Cobol for PC'syou could put messages out on to the screen which was 24 lines deep & 80 characters wide.

so ifd you want to put at message in the middle of the screen you could do some thing like

Display "Hello World" at (12:36)

with screen mapping systems it became more different becuase the program did not have to know screen coordinates so you might have some thing like.

Move "Hello World" to map-field-17.

ok. mate.
