The Daily Teaser — 2-7-2012

Hmmm …

Now isn’t that always the way?

It’s Monday: so, of course, it’s back to the jobhunting grind,

And, of course, as it’s the second day of July — and this is south-east England — it’s chucking it down!

Hmmm …

That’s … annoying …

Especially when you consider we’ve just had the wettest June on record …

Let’s get moving on, shall we?

Yes, let’s …

Yesterday’s Teaser was another quiet one, with no-one putting in answers*.

So …

Let’s see who’s interested in trying out today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the ‘How To’, License and video …

Q5) And finally … 2nd July, 1561, saw Emperor Menas defeat a revolt in Emfraz: which African country was Menas the emperor of … ?
And here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q2) More to the point … 1st July, 1890, saw Canada linked to which island nation by telegraph … ?

Q3) Even MORE to the point … ?   The world’s first international phone call was made between New Brunswick and which US state … ?
A3) Maine: appropriately enough, the Maine town of Calaïs.

A4) Oh Canada
Q5) Moving on … 1st July, 1908, saw SOS adopted as the International distress call: what does it stand for … ?
A5) It doesn’t, seemingly: things like Save Our Soul and Save Our Ship are mnemonics for the signal.
Q6) 1st July, 1858, saw two papers about evolution read to the Linnean Society.   One was — famously — by Charles Darwin.   Who wrote the other … ?
A6) Alfred Russel Wallace.
A7) 31.
Enjoy those, everyone: I’ll leave you with a tune from birthday girl, Michelle Branch …

*        Frankly … ?   I’m definitely worried about Old Peculiar regular, Debbi Mack: I’m just hoping her and her partner, Rick are ok, in light of the storms in the US.   After all, her last tweet WAS a couple of days before they hit.

Hi there! :) Actually, I was just getting ready to shut down the computer when the power went off.

I spent the entire weekend in an overly-warm house. We have a generator, thank the cosmos. Ha ha ha ... So, we were able to run the window unit in our bedroom, but we shut it down at night for our neighbors' sake.

Fun! Ha ha ha ...

Anyhow, I'm back. I'm still alive and kicking. :)
