Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 30-1-2020: Kiss

30th January, 2020.

I’m up early.

Frankly?

I’ve got that private appointment, today, to get at least on ear syringed.

Frankly?   I’m looking forward to that.

My right ear is … distracting … !

~≈√≈~

I’ve just caught some news.

According to the BBC’s news site, many children sleep with their mobile phones.

Which doesn’t sound too surprising, now I think of it.

I do: the alarm clock comes in handy.

Whether it’s a good idea for a child to?

I don’t know.

I’m just thinking show that article to my nephew, Jude?

Would mean Mummy wouldn’t hear the last of it … !

~≈√≈~

While we’re talking about news?

The BBC were due to switch off their Red Button text service, today.

The service — so you know — is the modern successor to the BBC’s Teletext service: and useful if you’re not on line.

Thankfully … ?

The BBC has suspended the switch off service.

That’s going to be handy …

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 30th January saw Kiss play their first gig: for an audience of three people.   In which year of the 1970s?
Q2) The classic Kiss line up includes Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Peter Criss and Paul Daniel ‘Ace’ Frehley.   Which of them was the band’s bassist?
Q3) Ace Frehley played what: lead guitar, rhythm guitar or drums?
Q4) Eric Singer is the band’s current drummer.   Peter Criss was the band’s original drummer.   Both wear the same make-up design on stage.   Which make-up: the Catman, the Demon or the Star child?
Q5) Finally … ?   The band’s first appearance in a comic strip was with which comic book figure?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) 29th January saw Kansas admitted to the USA.   In which year?
A1) 1861.
Q2) What’s the capital of Kansas?
A2) Topeka.
Q3) What the largest city — city, rather than metropolitan area — in Kansas?
A3) Wichita.
Q4) There’s a Kansas City in Kansas, a Kansas City in Oregon … and a Kansas City … where?
A4) Missouri.
Q5) The state was known as Bleeding Kansas, before being admitted.   In arguments over which ‘S’?
A5) Slavery: Kansas was a Free state, so you know.
Q6) Kansas is part of which US area: New England, the Midwest, or the Pacific North West?
A6) The Midwest.
Q7) The fictional Dorothy Gale was from Kansas.   She — famously — features in which 1900 children’s book?
Q8) Kansas Saloon Smashers was the first film fo be set in Kansas.   It was released in which year?
A8) 1901.
Q9) Which comic book character grew up in Smallville, Kansas?
A9) Superman.
Q10) Finally … ?   Dan and Frank Carney are from Wichita, Kansas.   They founded which restaurant chain?
A10) Pizza Hut.
Here’s a thought …
“The best philanthropy is anonymous charity. When you’re doing it for the right reasons, and not to tell everyone how nice you are. That’s self-aggrandisement. That’s also OK: if you want credit, that’s OK. But the higher giving is anonymous giving.”
Gene Simmons, Kiss co-founder, and one of the two original members left in the band.
“The best diet for the road is soup for lunch and candy for supper. It keeps the weight off, and you're speeding on all the sugar by showtime.”
Paul Stanley, the other remaining co-founder.
And a playlist …

As a final thought?

Kiss do their own range of coffins.

Am I the only person who think’s that’s a bit over the top … ?

At any rate?   Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        Yeah: Monday evenings won’t be the same without Nicholas Parson, Olga, they really won’t.   Moving on … ?   Economy … ?   😂   On a more serious note, you’re not the first person to mention olive oil: I really should keep some around: along side a pipette!   On the computer front … ?   Hmmm … What version of Windows are you using?   Microsoft’s stopped supporting Window 7: but have issued a definitive final update … as the original final update cased problems.   The other thing that occurs … ?   How much space have you got left on your hard drive?   I’m forever juggling hard drive space, to make sure I have enough space for updates.   (Oh: I also keep movies and photos on an external drive: that saves a LOT of space.   My photos take up a gigabyte.   My movie/tv collection is about four terabytes … )

†        It WAS an interesting era, Debbi.   Actually, do you remember Human Nature and Family of Blood?   The David Tennant two parter?   It was based on Human Nature, one of the Virgin New Adventures.   The novel featured the Seventh Doctor, so you know.   (Actually?   There’s a New Adventure called The Also People, by Ben Aaronovitch: which is fantastic!   They’d never rewrite it for the TV series: the Iain M. Banks estate would flip!)

Thanks, Paul and good luck with your ear! I have Windows 10 (I have a small notebook I gave my mother which runs Windows 7 and will have a look at it). I have plenty of space left on my hard drive. My original hard drive, which my cousin changed, was much larger, but he realised I didn't need that much memory. I have it still and use it to backup stuff, but I don't really need that much. Basically, the wifi keeps disconnecting and then I have to restart the computer to get it going again. I’ve tried all the suggestions I have seen (including uninstalling the driver for the wifi and letting the system reinstall it again) but nothing has worked so far. It might be some software issue or it might be the computer wifi itself, I guess, but it makes everything a bit tricky, as you never know when it might turn off. I’ll check with my cousin (although as he lives in the UK it can prove complicated) or will ask somebody local to have a look before I give up on the computer altogether.
