Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 26-1-2020: World Customs Day.

26th January, 2020.

Right …

I think I can say I’ve done a lot of culling: on my YouTube channel.

Before you start accusing me of slaughtering baby seals?

I mean that I’ve managed to delete a hell of a lot videos from my YouTube channel: as I believe those are the one’s causing the issues.

That — unfortunately — also includes a few of the earlier Teaser videos: where copyrighted content’s been involved.

We’re going to have to see if that helps …

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 26th January is World Customs Day.   Customs duties are taxes on on which I?
Q2) In the UK, customs duties are collected by which agency?
Q3) That agency was the result of the merger of the Inland Revenue … and which other department?
Q4) Customs duties are levied on things: cars, oils, cheeses, what-have-you.   What’s usually levied on people?
Q5) Customs duties are levied on goods that cross borders: cars, oils, cheeses, what-have-you.   What sort of duties are levied on things that have been manufactured?
Q6) Many ports and airports have duty free … what … ?
Q7) When you go through Customs at a port or airport, you have to go through a green or red … what?
Q8) Some ports and airports have a blue channel: for people coming from where: the UN, EU or LoN?
Q9) Stamp duties are levied on what?
Q10) Finally … ?   Customs duties are also known as which T?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

A1) 1759.

A2) Greenwich.   (The ship is still one of the fastest tea clippers ever built.)

Here’s a thought …
“… the post-office would bring more into the [[exchequer]] than the excise and customs had brought in together under Charles II … ”
Attributed to Thomas Babington Macaulay, 1st Baron Macaulay.
And a song written by Burns … …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        In theory, Olga‡?   I’ve earned just over thirty pound: and was on my way to reaching the £60 minimum payment.   I think what’s caused the problem?   Is the fact I’d built up a lot of movie clips — ones I used in reviews on here — that could count as reused content.   The definition from Youtube’s help page?
“This is content that doesn’t provide significant original commentary, or educational value. It may also mean that we’ve identified that large portions of your channel either completely match other content, or are noticeably similar. Examples include:
Third-party videos stitched together with minimal to no changes
Third-party content compiled without a narrative
Content uploaded somewhere else first.
Content uploaded many times by multiple users.”
With the “Third-party content compiled without a narrative,” line being the one that caught me.   I’ve deleted everything that had a copyright on content claim against it, Olga: we’re going to have to see what happens on the 21st February.   The deletion doesn’t leave me much in the way of watch hours.

†        I have looked at the ebooks idea, Debbi.   But — to be frank — there’s way too much completion out there.   And a lot of Facebook groups similar to one I’m in: that lets quizmasters swap question sets.   As for The channel?   I’ve deleted a lot of the videos that I think are causing issues.   Mostly ones that went in older film review posts.   It’s only since getting the iMac — complete with an on-board webcam — that’s let me do the ‘proper’ video reviews: and yeah … the Dr Who ones are getting viewed.   I’m hoping they’ll build up the viewing hours!

‡        YouTube’s got two types of copyright strike.   The first is a Copyright claim: where you have to take down the video, they have to take down the video … or it gets blocked.   Then there’s a content claim.   Where Youtube keeps the video up … but gives the ad revenue to the original owners.   I didn’t mind the latter: as at least it means those clips stay on the relevant post on the blog.   But …
