For All Mankind — Series 3 Episode 10 — Stranger in a Strange Land — A Review.

9th April, April: ‘Stranger in a Strange Land’.

Yes: it’s officially Sunday night.

And?

Dinner has been eaten, painkillers taken …

And TV will be watched.

Yes: it’s Easter Sunday.

And I’m going to be settling in with ‘Stranger in a Strange Land’: the last episode of this season of For All Mankind.

I’ll have my review up, tomorrow night.

Come back, then: you can find out what I thought … !

10th April, 2023.

Episode 10 — Stranger in a Strange Land — picks up from earlier episodes: with a flashback.

Showing us that the North Korean Mars mission, last seen in Episode 2, has crash landed on Mars … some time before the rest of the world.

Making its sole surviving crewman, Lee Jung-Gil (C. S. Lee) the first person on Mars … and the first person to pull a gun on Danielle and Commander Kuznetsov (Krys Marshall and Lev Gorn).

It was he the pair found, at the end of ‘Coming Home’.

It doesn’t take the pair long to realise a couple of things.

One?   They need to get the gun off of the scared North Korean.

Two?   They need to persuade him to let them salvage some kit from his ship.

Three?   Neither of them speak Korean …

Which doesn’t matter … as neither of the pair’s radios are on the Korean’s frequency …

Post titles … ?

Post titles, we see many things.

We see that President Wilson (Jodi Balfour): confronting the vice-president.

Who gives her a warning.

That her members of her Republican Party think impeaching the President is a very good idea.

Something that she warns will be difficult: if she gets a lot of support from the Democrats.

Meanwhile … ?

Karen (Shantel VanSanten) ends up Molly: when trying to find Molly’s husband, Wayne.

Karen wanted to talk over the offer she’s had from Helios: and finds that Molly … is more encouraging than Karen expected her to be.

Back on Mars?

Back on Mars, Ed Baldwin (Joel Kinnaman) has an issue.

His pregnant daughter, Kelly (Cynthy Wu) is suffering with extreme pre-eclampsia.

The flight surgeon’s recommendation?

Is to induce labour: on the Phoenix.

The ship’s rotation — and resulting Earth-like gravity — will give mother and child a better chance of surviving.

There’s only one problem.

There’s not enough fuel to get the MSAM, the Helios drone, into orbit.

In order to save Kelly’s life, the crew are going to have to take desperate measures …

Now … what did I think of ‘Stranger in a Strange Land’, this last episode of For All Mankind?

And the third season as a whole … ?

I have to say: this is another very good episode, one I thoroughly enjoyed.

The performances were good: this is Joel Kinnaman’s episode, I think, and Shantel VanSanten’s restrained performance put her forward as well.

Although, granted, her key role in this episode — dying in the explosion that destroys the Johnson Space Centre — means she won’t be returning in the upcoming fourth season.

But, as a whole?

‘Stranger in a Strange Land’ is a good episode, with tragedies, drama … and one huge cliff hanger.

The series, itself … ?

Was a superb watch.

OK, granted I think Star Trek: Strange New Worlds may have been a better, individual, series.

But For All Mankind has been the more consistently good series overall.

Frankly?

I’m looking forward to series four.

I seriously want to find out exactly how Margo … got out of Dodge …

As a last thought?

I’ll be watching that fourth series, as and when it airs.

But, as a reminder?

I’ll be watching  ‘Vox’, the next episode of Star Trek Picard’s third season, on 14th April: and have my written and video reviews of that up, on 15th April.

I’ll see you then!

‘Stranger in a Strange Land’.

Series Three Rating:
