Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 18th April 2023 Teaser.

18th April, 2023.

Hmmm …

Phone calls … phone calls, phone calls, phone calls … !

I’m expecting one, today: by six pm.

From the Job Centre: about the — theoretical — award I’ve been given.

I am — given their recent form — not expecting it to happen!

I was on the phone, yesterday, though: to the courts, to see if they could help.

They couldn’t do a thing, as it turns out: unless someone from the Department of Work and Pensions asked.

I think several things.

Including that this has been a long journey.

But, right now … ?

I think I’m getting a very British runaround.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        18th April, 1775, saw who make a famous horse ride: George Washington, Abraham Lincoln or Paul Revere?

Q2)        Joan of Arc was beatified on 18th April, 1909: by Pope Pius 10th.   She’s the patron saint of which European country … ?

Q3)        Æthelred 1st was killed on 18th April, 796ad.   He was king of where: Mercia, Northumbria or Wessex?

Q4)        18th April, 1906, saw a major Californian city, destroyed in aan earthquake.   Which city?

Q5)        Finally … ?   The Republic of Zimbabwe came into being: on 18th April, 1980.   Its currency is the Zimbabwean what: dollar, pound or schilling?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        17th April, 1907, saw Ellis Island process 11,747 immigrants: the most it had ever handled.   The island processed immigrants to which country: the USA,Canada or Mexico?
A1)        The USA.

Q2)        17th April, 2014, saw the Kepler Space Telescope confirm there was an Earth sized planet orbiting a star.   The star in question, Kepler 186, is a what: White Dwarf, Red Dwarf, Green Giant or Black Hole … ?
A2)        A Red dwarf.

Q3)        John McCarthy was kidnapped: on 17th April, 1986.   In which city: Beirut, Tripoli or Aleppo?
A3)        Beirut.

Q4)        The late Prince Phillip’s funeral was held: on 17th April, 2021.   He was — at the time of his death — duke of which Scottish city?

Q5)        Finally … ?   17th April, 1951, saw the Peak District as the UK’s first what: National Park, Site of Special Scientific Interest or Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty?
A5)        National Park.
Here’s a thought …
“I just have one last request: HBO, when you make the movie about this whole NBC late night fiasco, I’d like to be played by Academy-Award winning actress Tilda Swinton.”
Conan O’Brien, born born April 18, 1963.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        We’ve got a few national parks, Olga: I would love to visit one, if and when I get the chance.   One pointless bit of trivia?   The Brecon Beacons park has rebranded itself: as Bannau Brycheiniog.   Just don’t ask me to pronounce it!
Nope, the gas and electricity are separate from the service charges.   Well … each flat’s gas and electricity bills are separate: a small part of the services charge go towards communal electricity.   I couldn’t tell you where the communal meter is, though!   We’ll have to see.
The meeting went well enough.   Although it turns out the woman running it used to drink at one of the pubs I worked in.   And, sadly, a couple of the regulars I knew have died: Andy of lung cancer, and Keith of a massive stroke.   It’s a shame, they were to of the most alive people I’d met.

        Hello, Mum!

Hmmm … now I’m curious, Debbi: can you through me a link, as and when, please?   (Are we talking Bond, here?   There’s a story behind the theme tune … )

Good about the meeting, but sad news. It's always a bit of a shock when you realise somebody you had contact with for a while has now gone for good and you had no idea. In some cases, i stands to reason, but if you haven't heard, they remained alive in your head, I guess.
I hope today's phone call comes through when it should, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Here they keep talking about how difficult it is to speak to anybody in person about any official issues, and it is increasingly complicated to get an appointment, even online, to the point where in some places they've started offering to deal with this and get an appointment for people who aren't particularly internet savvy (or don't have the time and/or patience for it), for a price, of course.
