Demons and Tables

Hmmm …

I’ve finally managed to catch with “Demons”, the new supernatural drama on ITV, starring Phillip Glenister as Rupert Galvin, and Christian Cooke as Luke Rutherford.

I can’t say I’m impressed.

I’m not.

But I can say I’m interested enough to keep watching it, to see what happens.

It definitely looks better that Sky 1’s “Hex”, though that was fine as far as it went.

Let’s face it, ITV, and Sky have trouble.   In the wake of “Buffy: The Vampire Slayer” and the BBC’s resurgent “Dr Who” and “Survivors”, and, of course, “Star Trek”, they’ve realized there’s a big market for various shades of telefantasy, but they’ve nowt they can put out, bar the previously mentioned “Hex” –which was quite entertaining, but I always got the feeling the main characters would be complaining they couldn’t get the servants, any minute, now— while I, personally could never quite get into ITV’s “Primeval”.   And the BBC’s recent version of “Robin Hood” didn’t grab me, either.

Demons”, though, looks like it could have a bit more bite to it.   Here’s hoping.

It’s kind of a shame, though, that Mr Glenister’s using the generic US accent.  I realise the show’s producers, and he, himself, as an actor looking for a new challenge, wouldn’t want a re-play of Gene Hunt, but it would’ve been nice to see him come out with something along the lines of “DON’T MOVE; – You’re Surrounded By Armed Garlic!!!!!!”.

Anyway, moving rapidly along from one thing, here’s the table round questions I’m planning, for tomorrow …

Q1) Who was US president on VE day?

Q2) Who was President of South Africa when Nelson Mandela was released from prison?

Q3) What was the name of the first Roman Emperor?  Here’s a clue, it WASN’T Julius Cæsar.

Q4) Who was US President when man first walked on the moon?

Q5) What name was given to the heir to the French throne from 1350 to 1830?

Q6) Who was US President at the start of the American Civil war?

Q7) Which leader was exiled from Cyprus to the Seychelles in 1956?

Q8) Who was British Prime Minister at the time of Queen Elizabeth II's coronation?

Q9) Pervez Musharraf resigned as President, this year.   But in which eastern country?

Q10) Which famous politician was known as “Barry O’Bomber” at school due to his basketball prowess?
