The Daily Teaser — 13-9-2015

Hmmm …

You know, of course, that I have a bad — or good, depending on who you ask — habit of listening to Radio 4 in the morning.

I’ve just been listening to their Sunday* morning religious programme, Sunday: who’ve covered the case of Bishop Peter Ball.

Who’s been found guilty of several historical cases of child abuse.

It seems the Bishop had got off with a police caution: back in the 1990s.

!!

Now, I’m no victim of someone like the Bishop.   Thankfully.

But I’ve known people who have been.

I was mildly shocked to hear he’d been — effectively — let off: but not too surprised.

Lord knows what my friends who HAVE been affected would be thinking … !

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi† and Olga‡ putting in their answers: with Debbi scoring four out of five, and Olga bagging five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) Miguel Primo de Rivera founded a dictatorship, following a military coup: 13th September, 1923.   In which Spanish-speaking nation?
Q2) Lindy Chamberlain was put on trial on 13th September, 1982: accused of the murder of her baby daughter, Azaria.   Lindy blamed the death on a wild … what?
Q3) 13th September, 1994, saw the Ulysses probe pass the south pole.   Of which of our solar system’s objects?
Q4) During the US Civil War, Union troops found Confederate battle plans issued by which Confederate general?
Q5) Finally … 13th September, 1985, saw the original release of Super Mario Bros: for the NES console.   Player 1 controls Mario, whilst Player 2 control’s Mario’s brother.   What’s Mario’s brother’s name?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 12th September, 490 BC, is the traditionally accepted date of the Battle of Marathon.   The site of the battle — the Plain of Marathon — is in which modern, European nation?
A1) Greece.
Q2) 12th September, 191, saw Adolf Hitler join what later became the Nazi Party.   What was it called, when he joined?
A2) The Deutsche Arbeiterpartei or German Workers’ Party.   (It’s only later that it added the ‘National Socialist’ bit at the start of the name: the German version of the words, are what formed the basis of the term, ‘Nazi.’)
Q3) Southern Rhodesia was annexed by the UK: on the 12th September, 1923.   What is Southern Rhodesia now called?
A3) Zimbabwe.
Q4) The signing of the Treaty on the Final Settlement With Respect to Germany took place, on the 12th September, 1990: allowing for German reunification.   This was signed between East Germany, West Germany: and the four powers that occupied the country after WW2.   Name one of those four powers.
A4) The USA, the Soviet Union, France and the UK.
Q5) Finally … The killer of model, Reeva Steenkamp, was found guilty: on 12th September, 2014.   Which notable athlete killed her?
A5) The fastest man on no legs: Oscar Pistorius.
I’ll leave you with this thought from one of Elizabeth 1st’s oldest advisors …
“England can never be ruined, except by a parliament.”

William Cecil, 1st Baron Burghley, 13 September 1520 – 4 August 1598.
And this tune …

Enjoy the day …

*        I’ve now got the Sunday morning service on.   The priest/vicar doing the sermon has just used the line, “He accepted the devotion of prostitutes.”   If that’s not an ambiguous line, I’m a duck … !

†        I THINK I might have to give the Bunny Jumps up, Debbi^: my knees are starting to give out.   And yes, you’re right, that it does.    Oh, apparently, The Doctor’s Meditation get’s shown on BBC America, on Friday.   There’s no word on whether it’ll get shown in the UK: which has annoyed quite a lot of UK fans.   After all, the TV license we pay, pays for both the BBC, AND the show.

‡        It has to be said, Olga, last night went rather well.   Well … Apart from the fact that, when I left at the end of my shift, I left my keys in my staff locker!   Going up and down Warley Hill twice in the space of ten minutes … ?   Was just a touch embarrassing … !

^        That’s a thought, Debbi, remember the tune I featured, a while back: by Yoko Ono?   I know today’s, by KKNull, is just a bit more tuneful …

Q2) Dingo (I remember the movie version with Meryl Streep on it)
Q3) The Sun
Q4) Robert E. Lee (although I think the year was missing. 1862?)
Q5) Luigi
I've never had a locker, otherwise I'm convinced I'd always leave things behind...I listen to Radio 2 usually when I'm in the UK. Difficult subject for sure.
