The Daily Teaser — 24-9-2015: The Devil’s Tower

Drat … !

Did I mention I was working, yesterday … ?

Yes, I did, didn’t I …

I ALSO mentioned that I was hoping the results for the up selling contest would be in.   Which they weren’t: but I’m not going to worry too much about that.

What got me, yesterday … ?   Was how busy it was.

I don’t know that we can necessarily understand the words ‘non-stop’ until we’re in a place to fully understand them.

Yesterday, at work?   For me?

Yesterday, at work, for me … was that place.

It was non-bloomin’-stop … !!

~≈Â≈~

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw both Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring six out of six.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How ToLicense and video …

Q1) 24th September, 1906, saw Devil’s Tower named as a US National Monument.   By which US President?
Q2) The Tower is in which US state: Montana, Wyoming or Colorado?
Q3) The Tower’s name in Lakota is Matȟó Thípila.   In English, this translates as Bear … what?
Q4) The Tower is in the Bear Lodge Mountains: part of which range?
Q5) Finally … The Devil’s Tower famously features in which 1977 film?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 23rd September, 63 BC saw the birth of the man history remembers as Rome’s first emperor.   Born Gaius Octavius, how is he known, today?
A1) Emperor Augustus.
Q2) More to the point, he didn’t call himself an Emperor.   He called himself what: First Citizen, First Amongst Equals or First Lord?
A2) First Citizen: or Princeps Civitatis, in Latin.
Q3) 23rd September, 1459, was the date of the Battle of Blore Heath.   The battle was the first major battle in one of England’s best known dynastic wars.   Which war are we talking about?
A3) The War of the Roses.   (It was called that as the two warring factions used different colour roses as symbols.)
Q4) In the northern hemisphere, 23rd September, 2015, is the date of the Autumn Equinox.   What — in theory — will therefore be longer: day or night?
A4) Neither.   The Equinoxes mark the point of the year when the two are equal in length.
Q5) The Karlstad Treaty was signed: on the 23rd September,  1905.   This dissolved the political union between two countries.   Name one of the countries.
A5) Norway and Sweden.
Q6) Finally … 23rd September, 1215, saw the birth of Mongolian — and Chinese — Emperor, Kublai Khan.   What was the name of the Chinese imperial dynasty he founded?
A6) The Yuan dynasty.
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“There are things in nature that engender an awful quiet in the heart of man; Devil’s Tower is one of them.”
N. Scott Momaday.
And this educational video …

Enjoy your day.   And if it’s raining as heavily where you are, as it here … ?   Don’t get too soaked … !

*        The set-top box or the Mac, Olga?   I’ve got the Mac worked worked out: had one about a decade or so.   Discovering how distracting some of the games are … ?   Was unfortunate!   At any rate, I’ve got the basics of the set-top box worked out: how to record stuff, in other words.   Turning them into stuff I can play on the computer’s tricky: it seem to organise them in an odd way.

†        Pointless trivia for you, Debbi, you DO know who’s actually playing that axe … ?
