The Daily Teaser — 26-9-2015

Well, THAT’S an embarrassment … !

Doubly so, in fact … !

Not only have I not made a slideshow for today’s Teaser — something I’ve done religiously for year — but I’ve found out what’s caused the problem with my monitor: after buying a new one … !

First off, the slideshow … ?   Sorry about that, but I managed to miss making it, in the midst of doing a large batch of them.

The other embarrassment … ?   The monitor?   Remember me saying, yesterday, that I was getting some weird ghosting?   Static … ?

Turns out it was caused by interference from an internal drive that I have: one plugged into an enclosure, that I’m intent on using as overspill storage.

Realising that turning the thing off, when I’m not using it, means no static on my second monitor is a good thing.   It’s just a  shame I realised that after I’ve gone and bought a new one.

Cie la vie!

Now, before I move on … ?   Does anyone need a new monitor … ?

~≈Ê≈~

Blushingly moving on … ?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw both Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?   Here they are, along with the How ToLicense but minus the video

Q1) 26th September, 1975, saw The Rocky Horror Picture Show make its cinematic debut.   Who wrote the stage musical the film is based on?
Q2) Machine Gun Kelly surrendered to law enforcement officials: on 26th September, 1933.   He famously shouted “Don’t shoot, G-men,” whilst doing so.   Who was he calling G-men?
Q3) The first televised debate between Presidential candidates took place: on the 26th September, 1960.   Who was the Republic candidate in that debate?
Q4) More to the point, who was his Democrat opponent?
Q5) Typhoon Vera hit the coast of where: on 26th September, 1959?
Q6) Finally … 26th September, 2014, saw 43 students kidnapped by a drug syndicate: in which Central American country?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 25th September, 1964, marked the start of the War of Independence: in Mozambique.   Mozambican guerrillas were fighting for their country’s independence from which European nation?
A1) Portugal.
Q2) 25th September, 1983, saw 38 prisoners stage a successful escape: from which high security prison?
A2) HMP Maze: also called The Maze, and Long Kesh.
Q3) 25th September, 1066, saw the date of the Battle of Stamford Bridge.   The Battle marked the last attempted invasion of England by whom: Spain, the Vikings or the Knights Templar?
A3) Vikings.
Q4) 25th September, 1977, saw the first Marathon run.   In which US city: Boston, Chicago or Denver?
A4) Chicago.
Q5) Finally … 25th September, 1237, saw the signing of the Treaty of York: establishing the border between two countries.   Name either of the countries.
A5) England and Scotland.   (At the time, both were independent nations.)
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“I used homeopathy, acupuncture, yoga and meditation in conjunction with my chemotherapy to help me get stronger again after the cancer.   I also chanted with Buddhist friends and prayed with Christian friends.   I covered all my bases.”

Olivia Newton-John, 26 September 1948.
And this tune …

Have good — and hopefully unembarrassing — day!

*        Puzzle is certainly the word, Olga‡!   And one I manage to solve … after I’d bought a refurbished one from Amazon … !   Ouch … !   (At least there’s an upside.   The new monitor has a couple of different types of connection on it, one of which is a better match for my Mac.   Hopefully, that should sort out the mild smearing the second screen gets.)

†        Oh, I’ll be keeping an eyeball open for that, Debbi^: when I get back from work.   (I finish at nine, though: first things first, though, I’ll be watching Dr Who.   Michelle Gomez is on form … !)

‡        Basically, my Mac has DVI ports.   Both my monitors have VGA ports.   All I need is adaptors …

^        I don’t know if you can see this, Debbi … But yes … that’s THE Abbey Road …
