Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 2nd July, 2021.

2nd July, 2021.

Did I mention I like a good read?

I like a good read, every so often.

And, last night?   Managed to start Isaac Asimov’s Foundation.

Something I’ve been meaning to read for a while: especially given that AppleTV+ is due to start airing its version of the story in September.

Three very short and well written chapters in … ?

I’m impressed.

~≈📕≈~

Of course, when one book is started … ?   Another is finished.

Something that takes looks at the lives of Mary Anne Nichols, Annie Chapman, Elizabeth Stride, Catherine Eddowes and Mary Jane Kelly: the victims of the Ripper, rather than the ripper, himself.

Can I suggest you have a look at this particular book?

It’s focus on the victims reminds us of one thing.

In Rubenhold’s own words?
‘In order to gawp at and examine this miracle of malevolence we have figuratively stepped over the bodies of those he murdered, and, in some cases, stopped to kick them as we walked past.’
The Five: The Untold Lives of the Women Killed by Jack the Ripper, Hallie Rubenhold.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum†, Edith‡ and Debbi^ putting in their answers: with Olga, Debbi and Mum scoring five out of five, and Edith on four.

The day also saw Trevorª leave us a message. Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Feel free to share today’s video Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        Oh, I’m planning on spending it well, Olga.   I’ve seen a yacht I fancy …

†        Hello, Mum!

‡        Well … the show that was on was Barnum, Edith.   Us usher’s had learnt the words to every single song, by the time the show finished!   It only ran Monday’s to Saturday’s, whilst I was there.   Sunday nights, they had a hypnotist called Paul McKenna, on.   He was interesting.

^        It’s amazing what you can do with GIMP, Debbi!   I have to say, Northern Ireland’s been a can of worms since 1921 …

ª        Sorry, Trevor, I was feeling a little bit rushed!   At any rate … ?   Have you seen one of the new Turing £50 notes?   And did you see this piece?

Ah Foundation first of a trilogy that ended up with 8 books which managed to link just about every book he wrote. The Foundation books get bigger and bigger the more he wrote. There are two prequels to Foundation. I have just about every book written by Asimov in the house some where.

Q1) Pluto

Q2) Economist

Q3) A figure skater (quite a movie and quite a story. One of those where reality is more incredible than fiction)

Q4) To Kill a Mockingbird

Q5) Cricket
Judging by Trevor's comment, you might have taken on quite a commitment if you intend to read the whole series. I haven't read much Asimov at all. I think I read 'I Robot' when I was quite young, in the Spanish version, so I'll have to put it on my list (that is enormous, as you can imagine). Yes, I agree totally with the comment about Jack the Ripper's victims. One can't help but wonder what would have happened if his chosen victims had been more "respectable", although it is unlikely that he would have managed to go undiscovered for so long if that was the case. Often, victims get victimized twice in these cases. They all had pretty sad stories.
