Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 23-7-2019: The Emperor

23rd July, 2019.

Yes: it’s officially pay day, today.

Or, at least, the day I get my benefit payment should wind up in my bank account.

Which basically means one thing.

Good old fashioned bill paying and food shopping.

Frankly?

Nectar points come in handy, there.

Do you mind me wurbling on about technology?

There’s — famously — a lot of controversy about Chinese tech firm, Huawei making equipment for the county’s 5g phone network.

Theresa May’s government?   Had provisionally suggested allowing the company’s investment: whilst UK phone companies asked for clarity on the subject.

Yesterday?

The government announced it was postponing any decision about Huawei’s involvement in UK infrastructure: as the company is still blacklisted by the US.

The reason I mention it?

Is simple this.

I think the government is lying to us.

I think the real reason they’s postponed it?

Is so that whoever takes over as Conservative party leader — and therefore as Prime Minister, and as a PM with a different position on the subject — can take over today.

And then decide what to do with it.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Badwolf*, and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) Haile Selassie was born on 23rd July, 1892.   He was Emperor of which country?
Q2) What was his (Amharic) name: when he was born … ?
Q3) He was also held the title, Ras: roughly seen — by some — as equivalent to a what: earl, duke or baron?
Q4) He was also known as the Lion of where?
Q5) His dynasty claimed to be descended from the Queen of Sheba: and which biblical king?
Q6) Under his rule, Ethiopia was a charter member of what: the African Union, the League of Nations or the United Nations?
Q7) He was also a devout member of what: the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, Sufi Islam or Conservative Judaism?
Q8) Famously, the Emperor is a central figure to members of which religion?
Q9) He made a famous speech in 1936, at the League of Nations, after his country was invaded by whom: China, Italy or the USA?
Q10) Finally … ?   The Emperor died of either respiratory failure, or strangulation by the group that deposed him.   In which year?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) The film, 22nd July, is about a terrorist attack on Utøya Island, in Norway.   The attack was on 22nd July of which year?
A1) 2011.
Q2) The attacker also attacked targets in which city?
A2) Oslo.
Q3) The attack was the deadliest in or on Norway, since when: World War 1, World War 2 or 9/11?
Q4) In the year falling the attacks, there were copycat attack: either planned, or carried out.   One in the Czech Republic.   The other was where: Poland, France or Latvia?
A4) Poland.
Q5) Finally … ?  At his trial, the attacker was found to be what: left handed, sane or evil?
A5) Sane.
Here’s a thought …
“Today is the day on which we defeated our enemy.”
Haile Selassie.
And War, by Bob Marley‡: the song takes its lyrics from a speech the Emperor gave to the UN, in 1963.

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        It’s worrying, Anne.   I went out, yesterday, to just get a few bits: and was dreading coming home.   I was scared of what I’d find in my letterbox …

†        Yeah, I can remember reading about her, too, Debbi.   I seem to recall reading somewhere that her studio got her hooked on amphetamines, to “help keep her weight down.”   Ahem!   (She was forty-seven when she died.   Forty-seven!   Good grief, that’s younger than I am!)

‡        I don’t know why: but I have Funky Reggae Party ear worming its way through my head, right now …

Nothing worse than waiting for that letter to arrive, I know a few years ago I had health scare, had biopsy, which was fine just needed cells taken away (pre-cancer cells) not cancer obviously, I couldn't function for those weeks waiting. Its was like waiting for a cloud to come over when a sunny day. I hope when your results do arrive they are goodx
