Sunday 23 July 2023

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 23rd July, 2023.

23rd July, 2023.

Yet: it’s Sunday.

The day after I’ve released a review of “Lost in Translation”, the most recent episode of Star Trek Strange New Worlds.

Happily thinking the next episode — “Those Old Scientists” — would be on Thursday.

It’s not.

It got released, yesterday.

Paramount DOES like to surprise people … !

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        23rd July saw the UK’s government announce that the nuclear plant at Sellafield, was not linked to a cluster of cancer cases.   23rd July of which year of the 1980s?

Q2)        The late Philip Seymour Hoffman was born on 23rd July, 1967.   He played the Count in which 2009 film: Avatar, The Boat that Rocked or Coraline?

Q3)        C/1995 01 was spotted: on 23rd July, 1995.   It was a what: comet, meteor shower or planetoid?

Q4)        Musician, Martin Gore, was born on 23 July, 1961.   He found fame with which 1980s band: Depeche Mode, the Human League or OMD?

Q5)        Finally … ?   23rd July is the feast day of Saint Liborius of Le Mans.   Le Mans is where: France, Belgium or the Netherlands?

Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        22nd July is the National Day of Belgium.   It marks the day in 1831, where the country’s first what was named: King, President or Parliament?
A1)        King. Leopold 1st, since you asked.   (You’re right, Olga, that could’ve been better written.)

Q2)        Belgium is a what: monarchy, or republic?
A2)        A monarchy.

Q3)        The Belgian capital city is also the administrative centre of the European Union.   What is that city: Antwerp, Ghent or Brussels?
A3)        Brussels.

Q4)        What’s Belgium’s currency: the Franc, Euro or Thaler?
A4)        The Euro.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Belgium has three official languages.   Name one of them.
A5)        Dutch, French or German. (I’ve given Mum a point for Flemish: as — apparently — it’s considered a dialect of Dutch.   Bloody Wikipedia, changing things on me at the last minute!)

Here’s a thought …
“The true leader is a different sort; he seeks effective activity which has a truly beneficient purpose.”
Haile Selassie, 23 July 1892 – 27 August 1975.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        You’re right, Olga: that question could’ve done with some tidying up!   So could the one about the official languages.   Bloody Flemish!
I knew a fellow Terry Pratchett fan from Belgium: Brigitte was always happy to send out chocolates.   You’re right, the place is WAY too much temptation!

        Hello, Mum!

My pleasure, Debbi!   Oh … a 720 version of Episode 7’s in the mail: via WeTransfer.   Paramount+ released it five days earlier!   Oh, it’s got a couple of cross-over characters from Lower Decks.

Q1) 1984 (Yeah, right. Not that I am into conspiracy theories or anything, but as they say: “If it walks like a duck and it quacks like a duck...”).

Q2) The Boat that Rocked

Q3) a comet

Q4) Depeche Mode

Q5) France
They do like to surprise us, for sure. Not sure it helps when they're trying to get big viewing figures, if they change things last minute, but they might have a plan in mind...
We have the general elections today, so it's bound to be a looooong day (although I wasn't called to one of the tables, at least. In this heat it must be particularly tough). A lot of people have chosen to go with the postal vote, because they are away on holiday. So, the post office and the postal workers have been pretty busy as well.
