Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 22-7-2023 — Belgium

22nd July, 2023: Belgium.

It’s official.

It’s the day after payday: and the day after I went shopping.

And I’m mildly kicking myself.

There’s always something I forget!

Oh … I’m very aware many matches — of football, snooker, tennis, and many other things — can be interrupted.

For all sorts of reasons.

One of the oddest?

Was yesterday.

It seems a Gateshead FC match was called off, yesterday.

As a hearse was driven onto the pitch.

That’s odd.

But not necessarily as cute as the squirrel that invaded Arsenal’s pitch, a few years ago.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        22nd July is the National Day of Belgium.   It marks the day in 1831, where the country’s first what: King, President or Parliament?

Q2)        Belgium is a what: monarchy, or republic?

Q3)        The Belgian capital city is also the administrative centre of the European Union.   What is that city: Antwerp, Ghent or Brussels?

Q4)        What’s Belgium’s currency: the Franc, Euro or Thaler?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Belgium has three official languages.   Name one of them.

Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        The world’s lowest temperature in an inhabited place, and at ground level, was recorded on 21st July, 1983.   Where: the Arctic, Antarctic or Equatorial New Guinea?
A1)        The Antarctic.

Q2)        At a base controlled by whom: the UK, USA or USSR?
A2)        The USSR.

Q3)        Base — and temperature — were, effectively, where: the North Pole, South Pole or Equator?
A3)        The South Pole.

Q4)        The Base was called what: Vostok Station, Vladivostok Station or Salyut Station?
A4)        Vostok Station.

Q5)        Finally … ?   The temperature was recorded at -89° what: centigrade or Fahrenheit?
A5)        Centigrade: also known as Celsius, or °C.

Here’s a motto …

“Unity makes Strength.”
Belgium’s motto, in English.

And a national anthem …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        I hate going down with a cold, Olga.   It’s that bunged up feeling that does me!   I hope it clears up, quick!
I’m not a gambler, either.   I’ll get the odd lottery ticket, but try not to expect much, either.   But I’m very aware I’ve had my issues with alcohol, over the years.   So I try and be careful with lottery tickets: and don’t go to betting shops.   (I think the term is cross addiction.   Unless that’s an addiction you pick up, as a result of a separate addiction.)
Yeah, saving up’s definitely an idea!

        Hello, Mum!

Get well soon, Debbi!   I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you, though … !

Q1) King (I think you missed the end of the question or some bit of it, but I assume this was the intended answer).

Q2) a monarchy

Q3) Brussels

Q4) Euro

Q5) Dutch
Thanks, Paul. I don't know if what they used to call an "addictive" personality is still current in psychological terms, but I understand.
I visited Bruges, with my friend Iman and her family, a few years back, and I remember she expected everybody to speak in French, but hardly anybody did. (It wasn't a big problem, to be honest, but she was quite surprised). I guess what is official and what people speak aren't always the same thing. That is definitely a dangerous place to visit for anybody who loves chocolate, because you can't walk for chocolate shops, and the air, literally smells of chocolate.
