Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 27th July, 2023.

27th July, 2023.

Yes: it’s officially official.

I’m desperately playing Blondie’s “Screaming Skin” — track one of No Exit — in order to counter … an earworm!

I’ve now replaced it … with the Eat to the Beat LP.

Because … ?

I’ve woken up with a dance meme bouncing around my head.

Dratted thing … !

~≈🕺≈~

At any rate?

That’s countered by a certain amount of sadness.

As I — and you — learnt about the death of singer/songwriter, Sinéad O’Conner.

That’s a loss.

Much like Phil Lynott and Dolores O’Riordan, was one of Ireland’s finest.

She’ll be missed.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring ten out of ten, and Mum on seven.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        Welsh settlers arrived in Chubut: on 27th July, 1865.   Where is Chubut: Argentina, Brazil or Chile … ?

Q2)        A speech on 27th July saw Kaiser Wilhelm 2nd refer to his fellow Germans as Huns.   A speech on 27th July of which year: 1899, 1900 or 1901?

Q3)        Saint Pantaleon’s feast day is on 27th July.   He’s the patron saint of what: lotteries, Bingo or roulette?

Q4) John Dalton died on 27th July, 1844.   He’d done research into which medical condition: colour blindness, amusia or astigmatism?

Q5)        Finally … ?   The de Havilland Comet made its first flight on 27th July, 1949.   It was the first airliner powered with what: jet engines, solar panels or diesel?

Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        New York joined the USA on 26th July.   26th July of which year: 1786, 1788 or 1790?
A1)        1788.

Q2)        It shares its borders with two Canadian provinces.   Name one of them.
A2)        Quebec or Ontario.

Q3)        New York shares land borders with five US states.   Name one of those states.

Q4)        The USA’s most heavily populated city is in downstate New York.   What IS that city?
A4)        New York. Or New York City, if you want to be picky.

Q5)        The USA’s most heavily populated island is in New York.   Which island is it: Coney Island, Long Island or Rat Island?
A5)        Long Island.

Q6)        What’s New York’s capital: Yonkers, Buffalo or Albany?
A6)        Albany.

Q7)        New York State has an official sport.   What is that sport: American Football, Baseball or Curling?
A7)        Baseball.   (I don’t know if they play each other — I *think* they’re in different leagues — but, were the New York Mets and the New York Yankees to play each other on a regular basis?   That would be the nearest US equivalent to an Old Firm Derby.   Except I believe New York baseball games are a lot politer than Celtic vs Rangers.)

Q8)        New York’s high tech businesses are in Silicon … where: Alley, Valley or Roundabout … ?
A8)        Silicon Alley.

Q9)        Buffalo wings are from Buffalo, New York.   They’re spicy what: chicken wings, pig’s ears or fat-balls?
A9)        Chicken wings.

Q10)        Finally … ?   Mount Marcy is New York’s highest point.   It’s in which mountain range: the Adirondacks, the Catskills or the Appalachians?
A10)        The Adirondacks.

Here’s a thought …

“If you look at most of the Royal Houses in Europe, the inbreeding was pretty outstanding.”
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, born 27 July 1970.   (He’s the one man who would know!)

And some music …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!   (Silicon Valley’s in California, Mum — and New York City’s the biggest city in New York State!)

That’s what I was wondering about, Olga.   Would there be some sort of investigation?   Or a coroner’s hearing?   Those posts could’ve been needed, in either case.
And if the partner had been shown to have taken them down … ?   Well … ‘trouble’ would be putting it mildly.

That’s twelve years longer than me, Debbi!!!   :)   (Oh, the Mets and the Yankees are in two different leagues, aren’t they?   I was thinking that — if they played each over on a regular basis — that would be New York’s equivalent of an Old Firm Derby.)

Do keep us posted. Hopefully there will be nothing irregular in your neighbour's death, but it is best not to touch anything, at least not until after the investigation, if there is one.
Sad news about Sinead. Such a beautiful voice, but it seems she had been through a lot.

Ah the Comet. The Comet was the 1st pub i ever went into. I was 5 and it was the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II which we saw on a small black and white telly that the pub had hired.

The pub sign had diffent pictures on either side.
On one side was the de Havilland Comet and on the other side was Halley's comet with it's long tail.

There are occasionally cross-league games.

When they play in the World Series, it's called a "subway series." For obvious reasons.

1. Argentina
2. 1900
3. lotteries
4. colour blindness (British spelling and all!)
5. jet engines

I can barely move me fingers! Ack! :)
