Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 18th July, 2023.

18th July, 2023.

It’s officially Tuesday.

And, frankly?

I’m feeling both rushed, and tired.

After all, I was up early, yesterday: to attend my weight management group, and wait for an engineer.

Today … ?

I’m up early to attend a (phone) PIP assessment.

Hopefully, that will go well.

But I won’t know for a while.

You noticed I mentioned an ‘engineer’?

Yes: I was supposed to have one visit: to fit two smart, pay-as-you-go, utility meters.

One for gas, one for electricity.

He phoned me, before he got here.

Guess what?

He only had the electricity meter.

The appointment’s been rearranged for next week.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* and Mum† and Debbi† putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Here’s a thought …

“Most people who deal in words don’t have much faith in them and I am no exception — especially the big ones like Happy and Love and Honest and Strong.”
Hunter S. Thompson, 18 July 1937 – 20 February 2005.

And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        I think there’s rescue teams out in Seoul, Olga.   And, if I’ve understood what Radio 4’s news has been saying?   There’s some extreme weather warnings been issued, especially in Italy.   And people say there’s no such thing as global warming!
“Mad, bad and dangerous to know” is a very useful phrase, isn’t it?   I think it was originally used about Lord Byron.   What CAN I tell you … ?

        Hello, Mum!

Yes: I thought it might be something like that, Debbi: Blogger does seem to be eating comments.   I had to rescue a lot of already moderated posts, yesterday, that had been taken down as spam.   Quite what’s happening, I don’t know.

They said on the telly that in some places in China they have reached the 52 celsius, and they expected to reach 56 in Death Valley (I visited there, years back, in May, but I remember they told us it had been cooler than usual at the time. It is a beautiful place, but not one I'd want to visit at the height of summer).
It is getting pretty scary. It seems el Niño has something to do with it here, but it is getting more extreme than usual. Water is going to get like gold dust in some places, while others will be drowning in it.
There is quite a lovely (and unfortunately getting truer by the minute) song, in Catalan, that goes something like: In my country, the rain doesn't know how to rain. It either doesn't rain, and we get a draught, or it rains too much and we get floods. Yep, it is getting like that everywhere, it seems.
Oh, on a completely different subject, did you catch The Sixth Commandment? I've read quite a few great comments about it, and it is a pretty short series. I hope it reaches us at some point.
