Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 31st July, 2023.

31st July, 2023.

Yes: it’s officially official.

It’s Monday.

And … ?

Frankly, I’m off to my weight management class.

Hopefully?

I’ll’ve lost a few pounds!

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        Aurangzeb was named as Mughal Emperor: on 31st July, 1658.   The empire was in what’s now where: India, South Africa or Western Europe?

Q2)        Pierre Laval was arrested on 31st July, 1945.   He’d been a Prime Minister of where: Vichy France, Norway or the Independent State of Croatia?

Q3)        Operation Banner ended on 31st July, 2007.   It meant the British Army ceased its activities, where: Malta, Northern Ireland or Mars?

Q4)        31st July, 1886, saw the birth of producer, Fred Quimby.   He famously produced which cartoons: Tom and Jerry, Flip the Frog or Droopy?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Primo Levi was born on 31st July, 1919.   He was a what: biologist, chemist or physicist?

Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        30th July, 2022, saw the sad death of actress Nichelle Nichols.   Who did she play in Star Trek?
A1)        Uhura.

Q2)        Famously, Nichelle was talked out of leaving the series.   By whom: Dr Martin Luther King, John F. Kennedy or Malcolm X?
A2)        Dr Martin Luther King.

Q3)        She played herself in which animated series: Futurama, Batman or Scooby-do?
A3)        Futurama.

Q4)        Nichelle played Nana Dawson.   In which series: Heroes, Penny Dreadful or The Bad Batch?
A4)        Heroes.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Nichelle worked on various recruitment projects with the US space agency.   What’s that agency called?
A5)        The National Aeronautics and Space Administration, or NASA.   Dr Mae Jemison is one of the women who’s career started as a result.

Here’s a thought …
“Monsters exist, but they are too few in number to be truly dangerous; more dangerous are the common men, the functionaries ready to believe and to act without asking questions.”
Primo Levi, 31 July 1919 – 11 April 1987.
And a song …

“Me and You and a dog named Boo” seems appropriate: after a quote about monsters.

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        That’s a good thought, Olga.   It’s also the reason that CeX have stayed in business: they buy in second hand computers, refurbish them, and sell them on as new.   They make a fortune as they don’t have to pay VAT on the stuff they sell.
(Oh, we’ve got rain: want me to send some over … ?)

        Hello, Mum!

Yep, that’s the episode, Debbi!   The canned laughter’s distinctly unpleasant!

Thanks for the offer of rain. We sure need it! At least it's cloudy now, and there is some rain forecast for tomorrow. Jordi had a change of schedule so we'll do a class tomorrow. I've decided to walk to his place (I normally walk on the way back and take the bus there, but it is too hot by the time I finish the class these days), so it would be good if it rained before or after I get there, although, I'll take whatever.
I hope the weight management session goes well.
The quote from Primo Levy made me think of Hannah Arendt and her comment about "the banality of evil". They are so right...
