1st August, 2023: Colorado.
Yay!
It’s officially Tuesday!
And, yes: it does mean my nephew is heading over.
Hopefully?
We’ll be able to do something videographic!
Let’s move on, shall we?
Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga†, Mum‡ and Debbi¶ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.
Let’s see how everyone does with today’s Coloradan* questions, shall we?
Q1) Colorado became part of the USA. On 1st August of which year of the 1870s?Q2) Colorado’s capital is Denver. What — by population — is its largest city?Q3) Chardonnay, Riesling and Viognier are grown in Colorado. They’re what: grapes, potatoes or maize? (Riesling is pronounced ‘REEZ-ling’, Viognier, ‘Vee-ON-ee-yar’.)Q4) The Stanley Hotel is in Colorado. A fictionalised version of the hotel provides the setting for which Stephen King novel: Carrie, Salem’s Lot or The Shining?Q5) Finally … ? The American Raptors are from Colorado. They played what: Rugby Union, American Football or soccer?
Q1) Aurangzeb was named as Mughal Emperor: on 31st July, 1658. The empire was in what’s now where: India, South Africa or Western Europe?A1) India.Q2) Pierre Laval was arrested on 31st July, 1945. He’d been a Prime Minister of where: Vichy France, Norway or the Independent State of Croatia?Q3) Operation Banner ended on 31st July, 2007. Here’s a motto or two …
“Nil sine numine”. (Latin)“Nothing without providence”. (English)
A song …
And the other state song …
(The latter is appropriate: Colorado’s one of a handful of states to have legalised marijuana.)
Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.
Decisions about scores are final.
Thank you for coming: have a good day.
* Normally, I’d do a ten question set about a US state. But, as I’ve already done five about Colorado … ? I felt a shorter set was appropriate.
† All I can do now, then Olga§? Is hope it doesn’t rain when you’re out walking! Either way, can you tell Jordi I said “Hello,” please?
You know, I always think of that quote of Nietzsche’s, when people talk of evil; “Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster.” That always seems wise. And Wikiquote has a very relevant quote Leonardo da Vinci: “He who does not punish evil, commands it to be done.”
‡ Hello, Mum!
¶ Yeah … you’re geekier than you thought, Debbi§! :D Oh, have you seen the trailer for “Subspace Rhapsody”? I’m expecting Graham Chapman to turn up …
§ Did I mention I’ve got Bowie’s Blackstar LP, on? It’s one hell of an album: the man was working, right up to his death, two days after it was released!

Q1) 1876
Q2) Denver
Q3) Grapes
Q4) The Shining (I am not sure if that would make it a great tourist attraction, but I guess people can be pretty special when it comes to horror... I wouldn’t mind visiting it, I must admit).
Q5) Rugby Union
Great quotes indeed. In the end, the forecast had changed, and although it was cloudy this morning, there was no rain to be seen. They say that the weather will change dramatically by Thursday, but we shall see. I'll keep you posted.
Regards had been sent to Jordi. Next week he is away visiting his daughter and the twin granddaughters (a big challenge for his wife and him)!
1 1876
2 Denver
3 Grapes
4 The Shining

Geeky as all get out. :)
Don't get me started on my thoughts of becoming a physicist once. And an electronics technician. :)
