Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 2nd August 2023.

2nd August, 2023.

Right …

It’s now Wednesday: the day after a busy Tuesday!

Quite a bit happened, yesterday.

For a start … ?

I finally got the letter about my application for Personal Independence Payment.

It’s been turned down!

So … ?

Of course I’ve put in for a MRN, or Mandatory Reconsideration Notice: the start of an appeal, in other words.

How that will go, I don’t know.

I do know that — when I was making the call to put that through — I got a call from my GP.

With some good news.

Apparently?

My blood sugars are down.

From 57, last time, to 53, this time.   (Some seven per cent, if that’s how you measure it.)

It’s a shame the new medication hasn’t helped shift as much weight: but the blood sugars dropping?

Is good.

On top of that … ?

On top of that, my GP’s also told me the surgery has a ‘social prescriber’: someone who could help with my PIP claim.

I’m expecting a call from them, on Monday.

Quite what they can do … ?

I don’t know.

But hopefully, they should be able to help.

I’m also very aware my nephew, Jude, was over, yesterday.

Yes: we’ve done another video.

And I have to admit to a certain amount of pride, there: he edited this one, himself.

I seem to be having an effect!

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        2nd August is marked by the Council of Europe — amongst others — as Roma Holocaust Memorial Day.   The Romani word for the Holocaust, ‘Porajmos’, means what: destruction, devouring or genocide?

Q2)        2nd August, 2022, saw the death of of sportscaster, Vin Scully.   Which character in The X-Files is named after him?

Q3)        2nd August is Republic Day.   Where: North Macedonia, Serbia or Bulgaria?

Q4)        2nd August, 1945, saw the end of the Potsdam Conference.   Potsdam is in which modern European country?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Pingali Venkayya was born on 2nd August, 1876.   Or on 2nd August, 1878.   He help designed India’s what: flag, coinage or constitution?

Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        Colorado became part of the USA.   On 1st August of which year of the 1870s?
A1)        1876.

Q2)        Colorado’s capital is Denver.   What — by population — is its largest city?
A2)        Denver.

Q3)        Chardonnay, Riesling and Viognier are grown in Colorado.   They’re what: grapes, potatoes or maize?   (Riesling is pronounced ‘REEZ-ling’, Viognier, ‘Vee-ON-ee-yar’.)
A3)        Grapes.

Q4)        The Stanley Hotel is in Colorado.   A fictionalised version of the hotel provides the setting for which Stephen King novel: Carrie, Salem’s Lot or The Shining?
A4)        The Shining.

Q5)        Finally … ?   The American Raptors are from Colorado.   They played what: Rugby Union, American Football or soccer?
A5)        Rugby Union.

Here’s a thought …
“Booze is the most outrageous of drugs, which is why I chose it.”
Peter O’Toole, 2 August 1932 – 14 December 2013.
And a song …

You can tell the band was a Prince project, can’t you … ?

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        I’ll be honest, Olga: I’m just glad Wikiquote’s around.   It makes looking up a useable quote, a lot easier!
It’s a fantastic looking place, I know that: and the Kubrick version of the film made it famous.   (I guess — from what Debbi was saying, yesterday — that’s it’s made itself available for other film crews.   I’d imagine that’s handy for a lot of hotels.)
We’ve got more rain, if needed!
Oh, yes you mentioned Jordi had twin granddaughters!   Is now a good time to teach him the phrase “double trouble”?

        Hello, Mum … !

Like Dr McCoy, or Dr Crusher, Debbi?   Oh, hang on, physicist!   I need new spectacles!   Actually, combining physician with electronics technician could be good.   Especially if you’ve got a monster around!   How does Rick feel about being Igor?
I’d imagine that hotel’s cropped up in a few films, successful or otherwise: it’s strikes its a handy source of income …

Q3) North Macedonia

Sorry about the PIP. I hope the social prescriber can help. (I wonder how they come up with some of the titles, but, hey, if it helps, they can be called anything).
Your nephew seems to have the videos in the genes. What does he want to do when he grows up (even more)?
Good news about the blood sugars. I was reading an article about the soup and shake diet, and how many people with DM type II got normal bloods after that (although the follow-up wasn’t very long), but I know it’s been around for a while already. I can’t remember if you have tried it already.

And, judging by what Jordi and his wife, Cris, say, double trouble is right! (They are 3 y.o. and the two of them end up exhausted and needing a holiday when they come back from visiting, or the girls come here)!
