Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 13-8-2023 — International Left Hander’s Day

13th August, 2023: International Left Hander’s Day … !

It’s officially official!

So, frankly?

I’m expecting any right handers reading this, to be doing something left handed!

JUST to give yourself a taste … !

~≈®≈~

At any rate … ?

I’ve caught “Hegemony”, the last episode of Star Trek Strange New Worlds.

Frankly?

It’s rather good!

~≈®≈~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        13th August is International Left hander’s Day.   Your handedness is a result of your brain’s what: laterality, literality or lurgyness?

Q2)        Yakovlevian torque means that — for most of us — the side of our brain that controls the left hand side of our bodies is slightly in front of the other.   Which side IS in front: the left or right?

Q3)        If you’re goofy footed, which of your feet is on the front of a skateboard?

Q4)        D. W. Griffith’s The Left-handed Man was released in which year: 1911, 1913 or 1915?

Q5)        Lefty Bates played what: guitar, saxophone or trumpet?

Q6)        Prince William — eldest son of King Charles 3rd — is left handed.   What’s Prince William’s title?

Q7)        The first left handed player to win Snooker’s World Championship, did so in 2000.   Who was that player: Jimmy White, Mark Williams or Ronnie O’Sullivan?

Q8)        Actress, Lisa Kudrow, is left handed.   Her best known song, “Smelly Cat”, was performed on which TV series: The Simpsons, Friends or Star Trek Strange New Worlds?

Q9)        According to one study, left-handers are more likely to pass what, the first time around: their driving test, medical exams or GCSEs?

Q10)        Finally … ?   Journalist, Hazel Martin, is left handed.   She currently reports from whom: BBC Scotland, the ITV News at Ten or Channel Four News?

Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        The Battle of Ascalon took place on 12th August, 1099.   The battle is considered the last battle of what: the First Crusade, 100 Years War or the 30 Years War?
A1)        The First Crusade.

Q2)        IBM introduced its IBM PC on 12th August, 1981.   Modern PC’s have a mother board that uses UEFI to work. UEFI stands for Unified Extensible Firmware what?
A2)        Unified Extensible FirmwareInterface.

Q3)        12th August is World Elephant Day.   Elephas maximus is which species of elephant?
A3)        Asian, or Asiatic, elephant.   (It turns out, Mum, that Indian Elephants are Asian Elephants, living in India: apparently, they’re Elephas maximus indicus.)

Q4)        12th August is Sea Org Day.   It’s marked by whom: Rastafarians, Scientologists or Mormons?
A4)        Scientologists.

Q5)        Finally … ? 12th August, 2021, saw the death of actress, Una Stubbs.   Who did she ply in Sherlock: Dr Watson, Mrs Hudson or Inspector Lestrade?
A5)        Mrs Hudson.

Here’s a quote …
“Most of the current research suggests that left-handedness has an epigenetic marker—a combination of genetics, biology and the environment.”
From the Wikipedia entry on handedness.
And a playlist …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        I know what you mean about TV, Olga.   Watching anything for the 1970s and 1980s, is decidedly odd: everyone’s got a cigarette on the go.   And — as much as I love it — 1960s era Dr Who seems a long time ago … !

        Hello, Mum!

You know, I thought Maryland was named after Bloody Mary, Debbi: but apparently not.   It’s named after Henrietta Marie of France.   Heigh ho!
(Mine was under a local bridge: watching the cars on the motorway go past was hypnotic!   I’ pass the message on … … … … )

Yes, some of those old shows are cringe-worthy. I have a lesson with Jordi tomorrow and Tuesday is a bank holiday here, but, hopefully, I'll catch up with the teaser at some point or other. It will probably be trickier from next Sunday onwards, as I spoke to Olegure, the director of the radio station, and it is likely I'll be busy most mornings and afternoons during the festival, so I might only have time to say hello, but we shall see.
