Saturday 26 August 2023

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 26th August, 2023.

26th August, 2023.

Yep: it’s officially Saturday.

And … ?

I’ve just enough in the bank — or wallet, at any rate — to get some shopping.

And … ?

I’ve got enough to get the makings of a chilli con carne: but a new utilities meter that’s telling me leaving the oven on for that long … will blow the proverbial budget.

I might just have to have sausages … !

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with Debbi scoring ten out of ten, and Mum on eight.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        26th August is marked as Herero Day.   Where: Botswana, Namibia or South Africa?

Q2)        26th August is marked as Heroes Day.   Where: Botswana, Namibia or South Africa?

Q3)        26th August is marked as Repentance Day.   Where: Botswana, Namibia or Papua New Guinea?

Q4)        26th August is — in the Catholic Church — the Feast day of Melchizedek, King of Salem.    He’s first mentioned in which book of the Bible: Genesis, Exodus or Leviticus?

Q5)        Finally … ?   26th August is Women’s Equality Day in the US.   It marks the day women in the US were allowed to what … ?

Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        25th August saw the birth of actor, Sean Connery.   What was his first name?
A1)        Thomas.

Q2)        He was born in which year of the 1930s?
A2)        1930.

Q3)         He played a famous, fictional, spy.   Which spy?
A3)        James Bond.

Q4)        He played that spy in films for Eon Productions.   How many films for Eon Productions?
A4)        Six.

Q5)        Name one of those films.

Q6)        Connery played that spy in one film for a company called Taliafilm.   What was the film called?
A6)        Never Say Never Again.

Q7)        Many years before playing a spy?   Connery played a character called Joe Brasted.   In an episode of which police drama: Dragnet, Dixon of Dock Green or Dial 999?
A7)        Dixon of Dock Green.

Q8)        He played the extremely colourful Juan Sánchez-Villalobos Ramírez.   In which 1986 film: Crocodile Dundee, Highlander or The Name of the Rose?
A8)        Highlander.   (I don’t know what’s worse: Connery’s Spanish accent, or Christopher Lambert’s Scottish accent!)

Q9)        Connery won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for a 1987 film about Al Capone.   Which 1987 film about Al Capone?
A9)        The Untouchables.

Q10)        Finally … ?   He played which character in The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: Allan Quatermain, Captain Nero or Dorian Gray?
A10)        Allan Quatermain.   (From what I recall?   It’s an OK film.   I’m told the graphic novels it’s based on are far better.)

         Here’s a thought …

“Do not wait for leaders; do it alone, person to person.”
Mother Teresa, 26 August 1910 – 5 September 1997.

And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!

†        Yep, that’s the word, Debbi.   It works rather well with the version of In My Life I featured.   Did you ever see Highlander?   I think his Spanish accent was on a par with Christopher Lambert’s Scottish accent!   Clancy Brown as the Kurgan, though, was fantastic!
