Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 6th August, 2023.

6th August, 2023.

I think we can safely say I have something to share.

Yes: I’ve finally posted my review of “Subspace Rhapsody” … !

To the point I’ve got “I’m Ready”, Nurse Chapel’s big number, earworming its way through my head!

Heigh ho!

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Debbi† and Mum putting in their answers: with Olga scoring five out of five, and Debbi and Mum on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        6th August saw the birth of actress and producer, Lucille Ball.   In which year: 1911, 1912 or 1913?

Q2)        6th August, 1966, saw Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan become the emir of where: Abu Dhabi, Dubai or Sharjah?

Q3)        6th August, 2005, saw the very sad death of Creme Puff.   At the time of her death, she was the oldest domestic what on record: cat, dog or chicken … ?

Q4)        Bolivia declared itself independent: on 6th August, 1825.   From where: Spain or Portugal?

Q5)        Finally … ? Andy Warhol was born on 6th August, 1928.   What was the name of his New York studio: the Factory, the Studio or Studio 54?

Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        5th August, 2021, saw the Australian state of Victoria enter its fourth lockdown period.   As a result of which disease: HIV/AIDS, Covid 19 or Hansen’s Diseases?
A1)        Covid 19.

Q2)        5th August is one of the feast days of Saint Emygdius.   He’s the patron saint of where: San Francisco, Los Angeles or New York?
A2)        Los Angeles.

Q3)        5th August, 1940, saw the Soviet Union annex where: Latvia, Lithuania or Estonia?
A3)        Latvia.

Q4)        Erich Weiss was buried alive for ninety-one minutes: on 5th August, 1926.   Weiss performed under which stage name?
A4)        Harry Houdini.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Joan Hickson was born on 5th August, 1906.   She played which Agatha Christie character: Ariadne Oliver, Miss Marple or Miss Lemon?
A5)        Miss Marple.

Here’s a thought …
“The secret of staying young is to live honestly, eat slowly, and lie about your age.”
Lucille Ball, August 6, 1911 – April 26, 1989.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        In my defence, Olga?   The Wikipedia entry on Houdini lists it under its ‘Buried Alive Stunt’ section. Apparently, the casket he was going to use for the final version of the stunt, was eventually used — after his death — to take his body home to New York.
        If it’s any help … ?   Brentwood now has sunshine … !
Yes, it makes sense that the older ones, would appeal: they have more monster-of-the-week episodes.   A couple of the newer series — Star Trek Picard, and Star Trek Discovery, in particular — have through-arcs.   The Borg Queen in series two of Picard?   Is the nastiest piece of work.

Are you saying I’d do trick questions, Debbi?   That’s a vile accuracy!
Oh, I’ve seen the sneak peek for next week’s episode of Strange New Worlds.   They made some interesting scheduling choices for the last few episodes: alternating light with dark all the way up to next week’s “Hegemony”.

        Hello, Mum!

Q1) 1911

Q2) Abu Dhabi (emir, I think)

Q3) A cat (Most of them, at least pets, seem to live however they like and do what they like, so I’m not surprised that one lived a long life...)

Q4) Spain

Q5) the Factory (We went to see an exhibition of his work with Basquiat when I was in Paris. Not particularly to my taste, but interesting. It was at the Louis Vuitton Museum, which is a fascinating building in its own right, and it is not far from where my friend Iman and her family live.

I thought about Houdini straight away, but was a bit confused about the buried alive mention, as I have read (and seen so many movies and series) what happened a few times and never heard of him trying a stunt of being buried alive.

Cheers for the mention of Doug Adams (the British TV version, which I much prefer to the movie) and the Hitchhiker's Guide.
