Friday 15 March 2024

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 15th March, 2024.

15th March, 2024.

Right … it’s Friday!

So?

Frankly, that means it’s going to be a nice, quiet day.

Or a nice, boring day: depending on how it goes!

I may JUST have to do stuff: if I can find a movie?

That might be an idea …

~≈🍄‍🟫≈~

I have to admit, I’m on Quora: the question and answer site.

It’s interesting to see stuff go past.

With that said?

You still see questions from people that believe — or, at least, imply — that the moon landing was faked.

It’s tempting to leave a really sarcastic reply to those questions.

Mentioning the simple fact that — if the USA had faked the landing? — the headline from Pravda, the official Soviet newspaper, would read ‘FAKE MOON LANDING’.

Not ‘FIRST LUNAR EXPEDITION’!

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum on three.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        15th March is World Consumer Rights Day.   It was first marked when: 1983, 1984 or 1985?

Q2)        Footballer, Paul Pogba, was born: on 15th March, 1993.   He currently plays — when not serving the doping ban — for which Italian side?

Q3)        15th March is the UN’s International Day to Combat what: AIDS, Islamophobia or Corruption … ?

Q4)        Director, David Cronenberg, was born: on 15th March, 1943.   Which of his films starred Debbie Harry: Scanners, Videodrome or The Dead Zone?

Q5)        Finally … ? Sly Stone was also born on 15th March, 1943.   He and his band were influential in what type of music: funk, jazz funk or jazz?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        The The Gold Standard Act was passed: on 14th March, 1900.   It linked the US dollar to the price of what: gold, silver or copper?
A1)        Gold. Obviously.

Q2)        US coins of the time were made of ninety percent (90%) gold, and ten percent (10%) what: copper, brass or bronze?
A2)        Copper.

Q3)        One such US coin was worth $20.   It was known as the double what: Henry, Header or Eagle?
A3)        The Double Eagle.

Q4)        The Eagle was a US coin worth $10.   One Dollar is one thousand what: dimes, cents or milles?
A4)        Milles.   (There’s a thousand of them to a dollar: I believe they’re no longer minted.)

Q5)        Finally … ?   The US stopped using gold coins, when: 1932, 1933 or 1934?
A5)        1933.
Here’s a thought …
“I thought Naked Lunch was wildly entertaining, so what do I know?”
David Cronenberg, born 15 March, 1943.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!

It always amazes me what we can find out, Olga§!   Especially about dice: I believe some of the earliest were made out of sheep knuckles: which later evolved in to what I know as Jumping Jacks.   At least, that’s what Wikipedia is telling me!
And dice as inspiration for stories?   Makes sense!   Especially after playing role-playing games: and reading this, many years ago!
Oh, I couldn’t resist the song: as you mentioned Imagination …

I think I missed that one, Debbi§.   Although it does sound familiar!   I do have distinct memories of their The Next Generation parody.   The Tasha Yar figure kept threatening to send strong lawyers letters to the villain of the week!   (Hang on … does that mean you missed On Her Majesty’s Secret Service?   With Diana Rigg?   Dearie dearie me!)

§        Oh, Debbi, Olga, did I mention I picked up an external solid state drive, a few weeks ago?   After the Great Collapsing iMac Disaster?   I don’t know if I mentioned it, already: it’s a two terabyte Crucial X6, with plenty of space left … and copying things to it takes very little time.

Good news on the drive! Yes, I think I'd heard about the origin of dice some time ago. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with juego de las tabas (it seems it does). I'm not sure if it is called the same in English. I've found different translations for it...

Oh, thanks for the song! I hadn't heard it in a long time, but it was a favourite of mine.
