Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 19th March 2024.

19th March, 2024.

Right …

It’s Tuesday!

Which means I’m looking after my nephew, later.

If you wanted to subscribe to his channel?

You’d be perfectly welcome!

Oh …

If you’s in the UK, you may or may not know about the British Board of Film Classification, or BBFC: the body that rates movies and TV shows on their commercial release.

They’ve had their ups and downs: and remit, broadened, over the years.

I didn’t know they governed mobile phone filters, for example.

Which makes sense, when you think about it.

At any rate … ?

I mention it because the Today programme has told me two things.

One?

The organisation will be tightening their guide lines.

Two?

Natasha Kaplinsky’s in charge of the BBFC.

The last time I saw her, she was reading the news!

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with Olga scoring five out of five and Debbi and Mum on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        GRB 080319B was detected: on 19th March, 2008.   GRB 080319B was a Gamma Ray … what?

Q2)        19th March, 1936, saw the birth of actress, Ursula Andress.   She played Honey Ryder in which James Bond film: Dr No, From Russia With Love or Goldfinger?

Q3)        The New York City Bank was robbed on 19th March: in one of the first heists in US history.   The robbery took place in which year of the 1830s?

Q4)        E. Lee Spence discovered the wreck of the SS Georgiana on 19th March, 1965.   The ship was part of which country’s navy: the USA, CSA or Canada’s?

Q5)        Finally … ?   A deal was brokered on 19th March, 2023: to let UBS buy Credit Suisse.   UBS and Credit Suisse are both what: banks, Stock markets to insurance companies?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        18th March, 1837, saw the birth of Grover Cleveland.   He served as 22nd — and 24th — president of the USA.   He was first elected as President in which year: 1884, 1886 or 1888?
A1)        1884.

Q2)        He was next elected in which year: 1892, 1896 or 1900?
A2)        1892.   (He’s the only person — at the time of writing — to serve two, non sequential, terms.)

Q3)        18th March, 1496, saw the birth of Mary Tudor.   She was queen — briefly — of where: France, Germany or Brazil?
A3)        France.

Q4)        The first person to walk in space, did so on 18th March, 1965.   Who was that person: Neil Armstrong, Alexei Leonov or Valentina Tereshkova?
A4)        Alexei Leonov.   (Neil Armstrong was the first man on the moon.   Valentina Tereshkova was the first woman in space: and current member of Russia’s Duma.)

Q5)        Finally … ?   18th March, 1869, saw the birth of Neville Chamberlain.   Who replaced him as Prime Minister?
A5)        Winston Churchill.
Here’s a thought …
“All Faith is false, all Faith is true: Truth is the shattered mirror strown
In myriad bits; while each believes his little bit the whole to own.”
From the The Kasîdah of Hâjî Abdû El-Yezdî, translated by Richard Burton, 19 March 1821 – 20 October 1890.
It’s a bit too early in the morning for his version of the Kama Sutra!

And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        The meeting went well enough, Olga: I’ve actually lost weight for once.   Where the I can sustain that is always the issue!
I’ve JUST done a quick Amazon search: they’ve no barrel dice … but plenty of loaded ones.   I’m saying nothing!   🤣

        Hello, Mum!

I’m saying nothing, Debbi!   (But at least your politicians have personalities!   Whether that’s a good thing … )

I would recheck your scores. I make it 1 person on 5 and 2 people on 4. Cottagers is the nickname of Fulham Football club because they play at a ground called Craven Cottage. The cottage is part of the football stadium. I am sure Jude will know allof those football clubs.

Q1) burst

Q2) Dr No

Q3) 1831

Q4) CSA

Q5) banks
It never occurred to me to ask them where they sourced their dice locally. There are quite a few shops but I don't tend to visit them, but I'll pay more attention.
Well done on the weight front. I read yesterday that they are testing a type of medication that imitates the effect of both, fasting and exercising in the body, without actually having to do any, and it seems to work quite well in rats so far (although it is not being investigated for weight loss, rather for people who have muscle degenative illnesses and can't exercise for a variety of reasons), but it sounds intriguing. I guess there are some small scale human tests being done already, but it's very early days...
