Monday 6 March 2023

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 6-3-2023 — The Periodic Table.

6th March, 2023: The Periodic Table.

Yes: it’s officially Monday.

And?   Presents have turned up: after Mum dropped them off.

Thanking you, everybody!

I’ve ended up with the complete Torchwood blu-ray box set, and I Am The Law: a (hopefully) digestible examination of how the Dredd … predicted the future.

We’ll have to see about that: I still think the only thing that’s done that, is a little film called Brainstorm.

~≈Ç≈~

At any rate: it’s Monday.

Which means … ?

I’m off to the Job Centre for my fortnightly meeting with my case worker.

Hopefully?

It’ll go well.

I can, at least, tell him I’ve got a date for my hearing.

That’s going to be fun …

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with Debbi scoring ten out of ten, Olga on nine and Mum on six.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        Dmitri Mendeleev presented the first Periodic Table to the Russian Chemical Society.   On 6th March of which year of the 1860s?

Q2)        His table classified elements by valency — the amount of hydrogen atoms it can combine with — and by atomic what: weight, height or length?

Q3)        Due to the table, Mendeleev predicted the existence of what he called Eka-silicon.   Eka-silicon is what’s now called what: Gallium, Germanium or Technetium?

Q4)        The table is an arrangement of chemical whats: elements, components or factors?

Q5)        Finally … ?   How many items are listed on the table: 117, 118 or 119?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        Judge Dredd made his first appearance on 5th March, 1977.   In which British comic: Bunty, The Eagle, 2000AD or the Beano?
A1)        2000AD.

Q2)        What’s Dredd’s first name: John, Joseph, Mildred or Rico?
A2)        Joseph.

Q3)        Dredd’s clone brother is called what: John, Joseph, Mildred or Rico?
A3)        Rico.

Q4)        Dredd’s beat?   Is in which fictional city: the Sprawl, Mega City One or Mos Eisley?
A4)        Mega City One.

Q5)        Who played Dredd, in the 1995 film, Judge Dredd: Sylvester McCoy, Sylvester Stallone or Karl Urban?
A5)        Sylvester Stallone.

Q6)        Who played Dredd, in the 2012 film, Dredd: Sylvester McCoy, Sylvester Stallone or Karl Urban?
A6)        Karl Urban.

Q7)        Dredd has a pistol called what: a Lawgiver, Lawmaster or Lawbook?
A7)      A Lawgiver.   (The Lawmaster is Mega City One’s standard-issue Judicial motorbike.   A law book is a book of laws …)

Q8)        At the time of writing, Dredd is how old: 64, 74 or 84?
A8)        84.   (The stories are set one hundred and twenty-two years in the future, with time passing in real time.   In Dredd’s first appearance it was 2099: it’s now 2145.   He has — as you can imagine — had some work done.)

Q9)        Judge Logan is Dredd’s boss.   In other word’s, he’s the what: Chief Judge, Lord Chief Justice or Law Lord?
A9)        Chief Judge.

Q10)        Finally … ?   The Judgement In Gotham graphic novel saw Judge Dredd working with which caped crusader?
A10)        Batman.
Here’s a thought …
“I saw in a dream a table where all elements fell into place as required.   Awakening, I immediately wrote it down on a piece of paper, only in one place did a correction later seem necessary.”
Dmitri Mendeleev.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Oh, they got here, Olga: I’m just ripping Torchwood, as we speak.   And I’m looking forward to reading the book … once I’ve got Inversions done.   Iain M. Banks was always a favourite.
(Oh, you missed one, yesterday: the answer was ‘Batman’.   Batman’s producers have arranged some interesting crossovers, over the years … )

Hello, Mum!   (Oh, the right answers were: Rico, 84, Chief Judge and Batman.)

‡        Well, I’m glad to hear I got something right, Debbi!   And you’ve obviously learnt there’s a Batman/Dredd crossover.   The villain of that story’s popular amongst fans.   (Have you seen Any of the Spiderman movies?   The Tom Holland ones are fun.)

Q2) weight

Q3) Germanium

Q4) elements

Q5) 118
Oh, I knew it was Batman, and I thought I had included the answer as well, Paul. I normally copy the questions onto a blank document while I look for the answers and then I cut and paste them onto the comments box, but it isn't the first time that I haven't realised I missed one of the answers, usually the last one...
Good news about the presents, and I hope today's meeting goes well.
